The man in the Gold Thread White Robe waved the small knife in his hand, his feet splayed to either side. His waist bent until it cracked, and his body danced in an inhumanly twisted posture as he slowly approached the golden-haired girl in the sedan chair.
Hoarse, distorted music played across the circular plaza. At some point, the previously restless crowd had fallen into an eerie silence.
Even the few remaining Guards patrolling the crowd had stopped walking. Their unfocused eyes stared blankly at the small platform in the center of the plaza, at the golden-haired girl whose pupils were equally unfocused.
Raging flames burned in the distance and rapidly spread this way.
From time to time, panicked people ran over, only to see the scene in the plaza and seem to be drawn in by it. Silently, they stepped into the plaza and merged into the crowd.

The musicians dancing with their instruments wore smiles on their faces, their eyes vacant as they plucked strings and struck keys, as though immersed in the most wonderful music in the world.
Yet the "music" they played was mixed with shrill, piercing screeches. Just hearing it made Rui Lin feel as if her soul were trembling along with the "music."
This no longer seemed to be a melody meant for humans, but music played for some vast, twisted life-form that could not be gazed upon.
