"What happened over there?" the young man asked in confusion as he stood in the room and looked back through the window behind him at the caravans hurrying into the city.
"The consortium's Mercenary Group has further encircled Dawn City," a nearby officer said hoarsely. "All trade routes have been cut off now. By General Vislo's orders, we'll be closing the gates soon. The Municipal Government gave them a final window to let these caravans into the city, so they're rushing in."
"Won't that let spies slip into the city?" another woman beside him asked quickly. She had darker skin and wore her hair in a ponytail.
"There's no way around it," the officer said with a shrug. "We can't just leave them outside the city. Once the war starts, they'll be dead for sure. Dawn City has always done things this way."
He turned back, his gaze passing through the window toward the depths of the city. "I heard the Municipal Government has marked out a quarantine zone by the city gate. The caravans that come in will make temporary repairs there and undergo inspection."
"That works, I suppose, but it's still a land mine," the ponytailed woman said with a slight nod, sighing. "If this were Vetland, these caravans would probably be driven off outright. The masters in the city would put protecting themselves first."
