The flesh-and-blood monster blocking the doorway had been completely torn apart. The maid girl carrying the coffin raised her head and looked at the metal "filing cabinets" hanging in the air before her.

This was the deepest part of the entire archives, and also the place marked on the map as possibly containing top-secret materials related to the supernatural.

The temperature in the archives was not high. An extremely faint, low-frequency hum of wind echoed through the space, likely from the temperature- and humidity-control equipment operating inside.

The maid girl turned around, shut the Archives' Iron Gate, then set the coffin from her shoulder behind it to brace the door shut.

Then she turned back and carefully examined the filing cabinets overhead.

These filing cabinets were packed tightly together, like stacks of sliced bread laid sideways, hanging from the ceiling.

The cabinets themselves were far taller than their height above the ground. The suspended cabinets hung roughly two meters above the floor, while each was about six meters tall.

Compared with the usual cabinet-aisle-cabinet-aisle arrangement, this tightly packed design seemed to make better use of space and appeared more convenient for retrieval.

Each cabinet had a label indicating the general subject of the materials it contained.

The girl's gaze finally stopped on a cabinet labeled "Supernatural research facility (Top Secret)."

The several cabinets adjacent to it seemed to contain similar materials.

She walked beneath the cabinet and pressed a button on its lower side.

Accompanied by the faint sound of a motor starting, the filing cabinet above the maid girl slowly descended.

As the six-meter-tall cabinet lowered, it unfolded like a folding ladder, becoming three two-meter-tall filing cabinets connected by metal fittings, with about a person's width between each one.
