According to the Bible, when Jesus was born, three wise men in the East observed a star belonging to the "King of the Jews," and so set out for Jerusalem to pay homage.

As they passed through Bethlehem, the star appeared ahead of them one moment and in another direction the next. It guided them to the stable where Jesus had been born. This was the so-called Bethlehem Star.

The zodiac people knew today divided the sun's path across the heavens into equal sections. Ancient people believed that the sun revolved around the earth; the path traveled by the sun was called the ecliptic, while the moon's path around the earth was called the Baidao. Beyond that, much of the sky remained blank.

The nomadic peoples of Mesopotamia looked up at the stars every day, dividing out some constellations and creating stories for them. Ptolemy compiled the records left by earlier astronomers and added forty-eight constellations. Later, other astronomers filled in the gaps between the constellations Ptolemy had defined.

Especially after the fifteenth century, the Age of Exploration brought humanity into contact with the Southern Hemisphere. Everyone wanted to leave their mark on the starry sky, and by the sixteenth century, this resulted in utter confusion among the constellations. So humanity decided to divide the sky into eighty-eight constellations, a system still used today.

Every constellation had a principal star. If a constellation was a house, then its principal star was the master living inside it. For the zodiac signs, the principal star was the ruler of that sign.

These principal stars ruled their constellations. Astrologers during the Renaissance had continually tried to find the Bethlehem Star mentioned in the Bible, but due to the technological limitations of the time, no one could determine which star the "Bethlehem Star" actually
