With Gong Saiyi's help, Severus finally pronounced the spell correctly. Then something magical happened.

A Mamluk sword appeared on the floor of the Louvre Museum.

"Why is it a sword?" Severus asked Gong Saiyi. "Shouldn't it be a record board?"

"I think that at this moment, you need force more than anything else." A young man spoke in an old-fashioned tone. "My stepfather told me that nowhere made him feel more freed from the restraints of civilization than Egypt."

Severus and Gong Saiyi both looked at the boy who had appeared out of nowhere. He had dark chestnut hair and wore the lace- and embroidery-covered clothes of an aristocrat from a bygone era. Around his neck was the splendid collar of the Legion of Honour, making him look like a court page.

"Eugene de Beauharnais," Gong Saiyi murmured.

Young Eugene smiled. "We met at the Tuileries Palace, but I never introduced myself. How did you recognize me?"

"I've seen your portrait," Gong Saiyi said. "Though you were a little older then than you are now."

"When my stepfather met my mother, I looked exactly as I do now." Eugene slowly approached them with his hands behind his back. "I was seventeen."

"Napoleon and Josephine met because Eugene wanted to retrieve his biological father's sword..."

"I know," Severus cut Gong Saiyi off impatiently. "I need to know where the next statue is. Do you know?"

"Of course I can tell you." Eugene bowed gracefully. "You've already sworn an oath."

"He understands English?" Severus asked Gong Saiyi.

"It seems so," Gong Saiyi said.

"I speak a little as well," Eugene said in English with a slight French accent. "Though God made us speak different languages, so that we could not communicate."

"Then what did you just say?" Severus asked.
