The riot in the crystal ball continued. Paris's streets were a complete mess, no longer the romantic capital they had once been. The luxury shops lining the streets had been smashed beyond recognition, yet no one went inside to loot them. Instead, people doused them in gasoline and set all those expensive goods ablaze.

To stop the fire from spreading, firefighters tried to force their way through the packed crowd and put out the burning shops, but the demonstrators blocked the fire engines and refused to let them pass. So the flames did not merely consume the luxury stores; the homes above them suffered as well. Some people tied bedsheets to iron railings and climbed down to the ground. Armored vehicles and military police appeared in the streets, as if Paris had become a battlefield.

"Paracelsus," Gong Saiyi cried out. "What has happened to this world?"

"Why aren't there any signs?" Felix asked. "People always carry signs during marches and demonstrations."

The three adults in the room all looked at him.

"My dad's side job." Felix shrugged indifferently. "As long as someone pays him, he'll go hold up a sign."

"The crystal ball can only show part of the picture," Kemilian, Nicolas Flamel's last student, said.

"At least they aren't attacking people," Severus said lightly. "They're already very lucky."

"How can you call that lucky?" Gong Saiyi shouted in dissatisfaction.

"During the French Revolution, the poor would kill aristocrats but leave their belongings untouched. You don't think that counts as lucky?" Severus asked.

"That's barbaric!" Gong Saiyi said.

"Yes, utterly barbaric." Severus smiled mockingly. "After two hundred years, we really have become much more civilized."

Gong Saiyi stared at him for a while, then turned back to the crystal ball. Pomona's face had appeared on it again.
