The black dog led Pomona all the way to the foot of the mountain. After climbing for nearly half an hour along a winding, steep path strewn with jagged rocks, the black dog suddenly vanished. She hurried forward and found a rock ahead with a narrow crack in it, too tight for an adult to squeeze through unless they went on all fours like that black dog had.
Pomona had never imagined that her lack of growth over so many years would prove an advantage now. She turned sideways and moved through the crack. At its end, the passage suddenly opened up. In the dimly lit cave, a man sat beside a large boulder.
She drew her wand, just about to cast Lumos.
"Don't do that," said the man beside the boulder. "Someone might notice."
"Sirius?" Pomona asked.
"Yes, I'm Sirius Black." The man beside the boulder stepped into a shaft of moonlight streaming through the crack. "But who are you?"
"Can't you smell it?" Pomona took a step back.
Sirius looked furious at that moment, like a snarling dog ready to attack her at any moment.
The sound of their breathing echoed through the cave.
"You're a half-blood Veela," Sirius said after his breathing had calmed.
"Obviously, isn't it? Whether you're a Werewolf or a Veela, if you want to attend Hogwarts, you have to disguise yourself a little," Pomona said sharply.
"Do you know what you just did?" Sirius roared, his voice buzzing through the cave. "Just now... if you'd been caught, you would've been sent to Azkaban."
"I know," Pomona said calmly.
Sirius paced around the cave, his steps restless and hurried.
"You're disappointed?" Pomona asked coldly from the side.
"Disappointed about what?" he asked, frowning.
