Background / History
Harry grew up neglected and abused by the Dursleys in the Muggle world. Accidental magic repeatedly manifested around him: his hair regrew after being cut, clothing changed size, and he unexpectedly escaped Dudley’s gang by appearing on a school roof. He later demonstrated that he could understand snakes while trapped in a zoo enclosure. 587 1039
On entering Hogwarts, Harry was sorted into Gryffindor despite the Sorting Hat suggesting that he could achieve more in Slytherin. He quickly distinguished himself in the air, catching Neville Longbottom’s Remembrall on his first broom flight and joining Gryffindor’s Quidditch team. 416 2696
During his school years, Harry became central to several conflicts surrounding Voldemort. He killed the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets with the Sword of Gryffindor, surviving the creature’s venom through Phoenix tears. He later formed Dumbledore’s Army in response to Dolores Umbridge’s refusal to permit practical defensive instruction. 2690 542 864
Harry’s connection to Voldemort, particularly his Parseltongue, led some to suspect that he was a Horcrux. Pomona Sprout disputed this conclusion and instead investigated whether the ability could stem from a distant Gaunt-family connection in the Potter bloodline. 501 806 1039
After the war, Harry married Ginny Weasley and became father to James. He served as an Auror, at one point holding the title of Director, while continuing to face public attention he did not want. He also returned to Hogwarts to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts. 202 543 1090
