A first-year Ravenclaw student stood before a suit of armor in the Armor Corridor, staring at it without blinking.
She was so absorbed that she did not notice Pomona approaching.
"What are you looking at?" Pomona asked.
"Where is the knight inside the armor?" the first-year turned and asked Pomona. "Or is there an invisible ghost inside?"
"No, this is Charms," Pomona replied. "Like when you made a pear jump across the table."
The first-year turned back to the armor in confusion.
"But I saw someone turn a teapot into a turtle," the first-year said to Pomona after a while. "They're both hollow inside."
"That's right, but although the teapot turned into a turtle and moved, its outward form changed. That belongs to Transfiguration."
"How does that work?" the first-year asked.
Pomona wondered how to explain it to an eleven-year-old.
"We can't just look at the surface," the first-year said to her again. "Are you lying to me about there being no one inside the armor because I'm a child?"
Pomona was furious when, coincidentally, she heard Remus laughing behind her.
"As for that question, I think you can ask Professor Flitwick. I'm sure he'd be happy to explain it to you," Remus said, bending down to the first-year. "Now, could you let me speak with the Head of House alone?"
"He's our Head of House too." The Ravenclaw first-year glanced at Pomona, and that look made her even angrier. Then the first-year skipped away.
"Do you have a moment, Pomona?" Remus asked after watching the first-year disappear.
"What do you want, Remus?" she asked, ever so "helpfully."
"I'm planning to turn the classroom next door into an examination room. Defense Against the Dark Arts should be used more for practical combat rather than remaining purely theoretical, so I intend
