For most plant seeds, they would sprout as long as they encountered the right environment. Fireseed Bush seeds, however, would burn fiercely even if thrown into flames produced by the parent plant. Like ordinary plants, they would germinate with water and soil, and because they could burn themselves, they could grow even in an utterly dark cave.
There was a potion ingredient called Lano Potion, which meant morning dew in Polish. Dewdrops at dawn were ordinarily very common.
That was relative, of course. Brewing an Animagus potion, for instance, required dew that had never seen sunlight.
Both kinds of water were still water, yet they gave people different impressions. When people recalled something, they based it on an "appearance" connected to another appearance. Morning dew and droplets gathered in darkness, for example—such associations with the foundation could evoke fondness, comfort, disgust, discomfort, and other reactions.
Take Quirrell, for example. When he was mentioned, most students remembered the garlic smell on him, his turban, and his stutter. Very few had seen his "other side."
When Quirrell removed his turban, only Harry Potter had been present. He had witnessed Voldemort attached to the back of Quirrell's head with his own eyes. Once that memory had been extracted, the garlic smell could not be detected in the Pensieve, and the viewing experience was not quite so unpleasant.
It allowed people to focus on the event itself without being affected by the other things around it.
