Pomona made an apple crumble.
There was actually no milk in it; she had used "a lot" of butter instead. Though it was a little greasy, it smelled sweet and tempting.
Carrying a picnic basket, she went to an old bookshop in Hogsmeade. Sirius had been going there often lately, to the point that he no longer even visited Zonko, where he and James usually liked to go.
"Welcome," said the shopkeeper listlessly. His severely nearsighted eyes resembled the compound eyes of a dragonfly.
Pomona did not linger on the first floor, heading straight up to the second. Sirius had a small room there and was currently absorbed in his research.
She did not disturb him, instead sitting in a corner with the picnic basket in her arms.
He was designing a special map. Apparently, because the entire magical school had been built with ancient magic, he had to search for clues. Yet there were no records in the school library—not even in the Restricted Section—so he had to come outside the school.
Many people had seen Sirius playing Quidditch, Sirius defiantly arguing with Filch, but few had ever seen Sirius reading.
Still, even the most handsome face became tiring to look at after a while. Pomona could not help yawning.
"When did you get here?" Sirius asked.
She hurriedly covered her mouth, hoping he had not seen her "dragon roar" just now.
Sirius laughed.
"What did you bring? It smells wonderful."
As he spoke, he hurried over to her side and lifted the lid of the picnic basket.
"Apple crumble," Pomona said.
He did not seem particularly concerned with what she had said, chewing away in huge mouthfuls.
