"I know what kind of person he is." Lily, her belly swollen with pregnancy, set the table with Pomona. "When we were in sixth year, James saved his life—the day they secretly went through the passage beneath the Whomping Willow to the Shrieking Shack. Do you know what he said to me?"

"What did he say?" Pomona asked casually.

"He wasn't grateful to James at all for saving his life. Instead, he said a whole lot of bad things about him. What could that possibly change?"

Pomona thought about it.

A few times when studying in the library, she had seen the two of them together. Most of the time, Snape would be engrossed in reading and taking notes, while Lily would sometimes drift off, looking at "Severus" with a girl's gaze.

"Ah." Lily clutched her stomach and let out a muffled groan.

"What's wrong?" Pomona asked with concern.

"Nothing. The baby kicked me." Lily said expressionlessly, "Full of energy, just like his father."

Pomona watched Lily. There was not much of a smile on her face.

James had become much more restrained than before, but he still often rode off on his flying motorcycle with Sirius and came home very late.

Perhaps it was hormones, or perhaps something else. In any case, Lily's mood was very unstable, though having her help at Order of the Phoenix headquarters had eased it somewhat.

Perhaps Lily no longer remembered what James had once done to Severus, or perhaps she felt that compared to saving his life, that prank in fifth year could be written off.

"Do you think I was wrong?" Lily looked at Pomona and asked.

"What did you do wrong?" Pomona asked.

"I shouldn't have been so worked up back then. Maybe if I'd talked to him properly, he wouldn't
