Snape's old family house had changed considerably since the last time she had visited. Many new things had been added, and many had been thrown out—all the things connected to Muggles. The television facing the sofa, for instance, was gone, leaving the house without the slightest sense of modernity.
Pomona vanished the dirty water from the bucket with her wand, then refilled it with clean water using Aguamenti. The enchanted cleaning cloths immediately poured in to "take a bath."
It had not been cleaned in years—or perhaps it had never been properly cleaned at all. Bucket after bucket of filthy water was replaced. Fortunately, she had had the foresight to buy magical cleaning tools in Diagon Alley, though she had assumed this would only be a symbolic cleaning. How dirty could a newly occupied house possibly be?
She grumbled unhappily. Other people cleaned their homes before inviting friends over for housewarming parties, even though that would make the freshly cleaned house a mess again.
"Take it," Snape said, handing her a drink.
"Thank you." Pomona accepted it, and Snape went back to his own work.
He had illegally used an Extension Charm on the house. What looked cramped from outside contained plenty of room within. Yet even the sofa in the sitting room had vanished, leaving only an armchair, presumably for the owner to read in. It was practically impossible for guests to sit down and chat.
Pomona stared at that "throne" and decided she might as well drink standing up. The moment she took a sip, her eyes widened.
"Where did you get Shrivelfig juice?" Pomona asked.
"It's wine," Snape corrected her.
