A clamor rose from downstairs.
Pomona had not lived here before, and only now did she understand why Mrs. Hall disliked the Sicilian restaurant downstairs.
Every morning, the restaurant received the ingredients it needed for the day's business. Almost all the owner's suppliers were italians, "warm and cheerful," and they spoke very loudly.
Of course, some people liked the bustle and felt it made life seem more vibrant.
In any case, she closed the window, and the room immediately became much quieter—quiet enough for her to hear the rush of water.
Severus was taking a shower. Damn it, why had he not washed at his home in Spinner's End before coming here? It was not as if he lived here anyway.
Then she reopened the window she had just closed. Taking a deep breath of the fresh air carried by the breeze, she felt considerably cooler.
Next, she switched on the magical fan. It ran on magic; though a spell could achieve the same effect, she rather liked sitting in a wicker chair, drinking an iced beverage while the fan blew on her.
Someone had said one should enjoy one's holiday. Wasn't summer break supposed to be like this?
As she looked through the menu, she pondered how to get hold of a radio. Before long, the sound of water from the bathroom stopped.
She pretended nothing had happened, staring intently at the menu, while her ears clearly caught the sound of a door opening and footsteps.
A huge source of heat appeared at the other end of the sitting room.
"How about we eat out today?"
"Where?" Pomona said without looking up.
"Victoria Park. There's something we need to investigate," Snape said.
"Victoria Park? What could possibly be there? Oh, Merlin!"
