"Professor, what are we having for dinner tonight?"

Pomona came back to herself and saw a new student—no, he should be a second-year now.

"Hall Chicken Pie, as usual," Pomona replied.

"It's tradition!" said another student helping in the kitchen. "Don't we have this every year at the start of term?"

To prepare for the feast in advance, some volunteers cut their holidays short and came back to school instead of taking the Hogwarts Express from King's Cross Station with the other students.

As she mixed the spices for the chicken pie, she thought about it.

Unfortunately, after all these years, Remus Lupin still came to school on the Hogwarts Express, just as he had when reporting for his first year.

When Lockhart came to Hogwarts last year, he had driven his own fashionable flying car.

"Your tarragon."

A bottle of powder in a crystal vial was placed before her.

She looked up. Snape was already turning to leave.

"Thank you," she said instinctively.

He paused for a moment, said nothing, and left anyway.

Cocoa was very bitter without a great deal of sugar, and because so much sugar was added, people assumed chocolate was sweet.

Every first-year had to cross Black Lake by boat, disembark at the boathouse, then climb the steps to the antechamber outside the Great Hall. They had to wait until the older students were seated before entering the hall. The older students did not take boats; they arrived at school in carriages pulled by Thestrals.
