In Hogwarts: A History of the School, legend had it that Peeves had once been a person. He had used his last ounce of strength to reach the Great Hall, where a feast was being held, and told everyone that the Giants were coming.

But no one believed him. It was not until he turned into a ghost before their very eyes that people began screaming in panic.

"Have you heard? Dementors attacked the Hogwarts Express," Sinistra said excitedly.

"Not attacked. They boarded to conduct a search," said the Ancient Runes professor. Neither of them gave Pomona a chance to speak.

"I heard they attacked Harry Potter. Look." Sinistra gestured across the hall. "It was the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor who stopped them."

Pomona looked over.

Remus was sitting right beside Snape... That seating arrangement was truly classic.

Even the Frog Choir's singing could not drown out the whispers filling the Great Hall. Once they had finished, Dumbledore stepped before the owl lectern, ready to give his customary start-of-term speech.

"Welcome to a new school year at Hogwarts." Dumbledore's voice, amplified by the Sonorus Charm on the owl lectern, echoed through the Great Hall. "I will keep this brief, before everyone is distracted by this delicious feast..."

"He looks paler than usual," Sinistra said, looking toward the Gryffindor table.

Pomona, meanwhile, watched Remus rise to his feet. He looked thinner and paler than he had as a student.

Dumbledore then introduced the Care of Magical Creatures teacher replacing the retired Kettleburn. When Hagrid stood up, he accidentally bumped the table and nearly overturned it.

Besides a Werewolf, this year's faculty also included a half-Giant...
