"The solar sunspot cycle is eleven years, but eleven years is not absolute; there can be deviations. We have observed that solar sunspot activity this year is more pronounced than in previous years..."
The voice on the radio grew fuzzy at that point. The person sitting closest gave it a tap, and it returned to normal, but it had switched to another station.
"The Wetherly Family has signed a contract with Denmark's North Sea Storms and will serve the team starting next year..."
A chorus of boos immediately rose from the common room.
"Turn it off. How much more bad news do we have to listen to?" one boy complained.
The person nearest the radio did not move. Another boy, who had been doing homework, set down his pen and turned it off. The song emitted by the magical plants became clear again.
Pomona did not know much about Quidditch, but she had heard of the Wetherly Family. Nearly every generation of their family produced a star player.
"Head of House!" The male and female prefects came running over, out of breath. "We've confirmed that there are no Doxies in the common room, nor any holes for them to get in and out through."
"Thank you." Pomona gave each of them a vanilla ice cream. "Stay vigilant."
Then she left the common room.
Just in case, she still set a protective spell at the entrance, so that when someone went to the kitchen for food and opened the common room door, they would not let Doxies inside.
Once she had finished all that, she let out a breath and was about to return to her office to rest.
"Head of House!" Tonks hurried over, shouting, "Something's happened!"
Not wanting to alarm the others, Pomona followed her out of the dungeons.
