When Scamander was in the prison of the German Ministry of Magic, he had encountered a "swaying Manticore." This magical beast had two forms: one feline and one insect-like. The "swaying Manticore" belonged to the insect-like variety.
Insect-like Manticores had adult and juvenile forms. There was little difference in their appearance, except that juveniles were red.
