Venice was known as the City of Water and the City of Bridges. According to travel magazines, the islands that made up Venice had around four hundred bridges. Cars could not pass through those narrow streets, so if one did not want to take a boat, the only options were walking or riding a motorbike.

Calling them motorbikes was not quite right. They were the small electric scooters young people rode through streets and alleyways, and they were incredibly irritating.

There were no motor vehicle roads in Venice's city center, the old town. Its main function was tourism, and the vast majority of locals lived in the suburbs.

Italy was wonderful aside from its many pickpockets and inefficient police. Those scooter gangs only dared to snatch bags in the old town because Venice's police could only patrol on foot.

Oh, how could a trip to Italy count as visiting the Mafia's homeland if she had not encountered a robbery?

The waterways in the old town were very narrow. Long, slender gondolas could not turn around at all, and the channels could generally only fit two boats side by side. Chasing criminals on motorboats was basically impossible. The police mostly existed to give tourists directions or settle consumer disputes. Only on broad waterways like the Grand Canal could one see them patrolling in speedboats.

Single women had to be careful when traveling abroad, but she was a witch, with an Occamy and Cockroach Cluster as bodyguards. For now, she did not need to worry about her personal safety.
