If someone could understand the I Ching, they could understand Hermetic philosophy.

In The Kybalion, the author introduced the seven mystical principles of Hermeticism. The book said, "The principles of truth are seven. Whoever understands them possesses a magical key; at its touch, every door of the temple will swing open."

These seven principles were:

The Principle of Mentalism: "All is mind; the universe is mental."

The Principle of Polarity: "Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites. Like and dislike are the same. Opposites are identical in nature, differing only in degree. Extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all apparent paradoxes may be reconciled."

The Principle of Rhythm: "Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum swing manifests in everything. The measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates."

The Principle of Cause and Effect: "Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause. Everything happens according to law. Chance is merely a name for law not recognized. There are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law."

The Principle of Gender: "Gender exists in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles. Gender manifests on all planes."

The Principle of Correspondence: "As the source, so the tributary; as the tributary, so the source."

The Principle of Vibration: "Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."

The very first Principle of Mentalism—"All is mind; the universe is mental"—differed from modern science.

Perhaps the end of science was not theology, but a shift from understanding the world through matter to perceiving the universe through spirit.

Making assertions made it easy to convince people and establish authority, but speaking this way blurred the true nature of things. Theology
