"Stop! Stop!"
Veronica tried to pull apart the two children who were using food as "weapons," only to end up covered in cream herself.
The two little troublemakers giggled and ran off, leaving Veronica standing there alone.
She looked so angry she was on the verge of screaming.
"Are you all right?" a nun from the convent came over and asked with concern.
"Those little devils!" Veronica wiped the cream from her eyes.
"You look like you need to clean up." The nun looked Veronica over.
Veronica did not resist and obediently followed the nun away.
Some said every child was an angel who brought joy, but two children definitely did not bring twice the happiness.
Besides the nursing home, the church also ran kindergartens and orphanages, which needed nuns as well.
"I am never going anywhere packed with children again," she muttered as she tried to clean herself up. The sweet, greasy cream clung stickily to her sweater, and even a damp handkerchief could not wipe it clean.
"Sorry, we do not have any clothes suitable for a young girl." The nun returned with a bundle of black fabric in her hands. "Would you mind wearing our clothes?"
Veronica was a little surprised.
"I heard you have taken your first vows," the nun said. "Would you like to see what you look like in this outfit?"
Like many girls, Laura loved buying clothes. Every outfit gave her a different air, and she and Monica often switched clothes for fun.
Veronica rarely joined in. Alicia was always criticizing her clothes for being too old-fashioned and gloomy in color, nothing like the bright, colorful things ordinary girls wore.
