"I have to say..." There was a note of approval in Vizet's voice. "Mr. Bonanno, you were quite committed when you were performing."
He leaned forward slightly and looked into Joseph Bonanno's eyes. "When I met those eyes of yours, I really could sense sincerity in them."
"But before Legilimency, that shallow layer of 'sincerity' is meaningless. I can see what's hidden behind that false 'sincerity'... things that are far more interesting."
Joseph Bonanno's eyes flickered. Perhaps because Vizet had seen through his disguise, when he looked into Vizet's eyes again, all he could feel from them was coldness.
He breathed heavily and wanted to avoid Vizet's icy gaze, but the convictions hidden in the deepest part of his heart left him torn, and he did not choose to close his eyes.
"You're conflicted, aren't you?" Vizet said. "There are still some things you want to hold on to. You don't want to lose to me, do you?"
"So what if I don't?" Joseph Bonanno stubbornly kept his eyes open, maintaining eye contact with Vizet.
"Do you really think... using some... Legilimency... and seeing through my thoughts is such an impressive thing?"
"All I can say is that young people are still too young! Aside from seeing through my thoughts, what else can you do? I know far more about magic than you imagine!"
Vizet asked with interest, "Oh? Is that so?"
"I know..." Joseph Bonanno forced out a smile with effort. His voice also calmed, becoming soft-spoken again.
"You're with the Magical Congress, so no matter how much you hurt me, you still have a bottom line. Just like this magic you cast on me..."
"I don't know what this magic is called, but I can guess what it does... As long as I don't shout and scream, I
