"Infiltrated the Department of Mysteries," Snape said. "Mr. Shacklebolt, you should know very well... Barty Crouch Jr. was once a Death Eater, and was even imprisoned in Azkaban for it."
Kingsley Shacklebolt frowned, studying Snape with a scrutinizing gaze. "Professor Snape, how did you discover him?"
Snape said unhurriedly, "As Head of Slytherin House, I had the responsibility and duty to come here and accompany the students taking their O.W.L. Exams."
"The process was hardly interesting. To pass the time, I took a walk around the area, and it was during that time that I noticed something unusual."
"What kind of anomaly?" Kingsley asked.
"Residual traces of magic." Snape's voice remained calm. "Very faint, but highly unusual—something even I found somewhat familiar. In short... it was not something that should have appeared here."
Kingsley gave a slight nod, but the scrutiny in his eyes did not fade.
After considering it briefly, he looked at Snape and continued, "Then why Mr. Lovegood?"
"And... where is Mr. Lovegood now? Can he testify for you and prove everything you've said?"
"That is what I was about to explain." Snape drew a deep breath. "It was him because his magical ability is exceptional... even compared to many professors."
"The situation was quite urgent. I believed I had no time to notify anyone else, and Vizet happened to be present, so I told him about the traces."
"Vizet took the matter very seriously, so we followed the trail all the way into the Department of Mysteries, where we found Barty Crouch Jr."
"As for where Vizet went..." He turned to look in the direction of the Department of Mysteries. "While trying to stop Barty Crouch Jr.'s actions, Vizet met with an accident... and vanished in the Time Hall."
"You said Mr. Lovegood..." Kingsley Shacklebolt's eyes
