Application of Runes
After calling out the roll, Bathsheda Babbling picked up the chalk and wrote the word "Runes" in the largest font. "Can anyone tell me where Runes originated?"
Behind Wizet and the others, a murmur of whispers arose.
Ancient Runes classrooms were not small, but there weren't many students taking the course, so it was easy to hear whispers behind one's back.
"Strange... Hermione didn't raise her hand to answer the question..." Terry Boot turned to look at Hermione beside him, "And she almost didn't show up during roll call!"
"Something's definitely not right!" Anthony Goldstein opened "Ancient Runes Made Easy". "In my mind, she should have raised her hand immediately and then answered the question."
"Could it be due to the influence of Dementor?" Chris Moen guessed. "You should know about Harry, right?"
"When the Dementor were inspecting the Hogwarts Express, Harry was unconscious for a long time, so Hermione and the others might have been affected as well?"
When studying with Gryffindor students, Hermione is often the most enthusiastic student in answering questions.
She would raise her hand the moment the professor asked a question and give an answer at an astonishing speed to earn House Points.
Wizet wasn't particularly keen on answering questions; he would usually raise his hand to complete the answer only if he felt he needed to add further explanation.
"Then let me try!" Anthony was eager to try. He looked at the textbook again and slowly raised his hand.
Bathsheda Babbling nodded. "Please, Mr. Goldstein!"
Anthony closed "Ancient Runes Made Easy," cleared his throat, and began to talk about the Runes.
Regarding the origin of Runes, Wizet had already learned about the origins when he traveled to Sweden;
The relevant records from Sweden are actually quite similar to the overview in "Ancient Runes Made Easy";
The story mainly revolves around a powerful wizard who, at the cost of his own life, gains magical power known as "Runes".
Later generations discovered this wizard's legacy and, through this magical power called "Runes," empowered other wizards, leading to the development of various kinds of magic.
"Great! Ravenclaw, three points!" Bathsheda Babbling waved for Anthony to sit down and took the "Ancient Runes Made Easy" in his hand.
"Runes is an Ancient Magic Power. To fully explain its origins would probably require many class periods. I don't want to take Professor Binns ' job."
Amid the students' knowing smiles, Bathsheda Babbling waved his book, "Ancient Runes Made Easy."
"Therefore, we should refer to the ' Ancient Runes Made Easy ' and simply memorize its overview. The reason for memorizing this content is that it is a required question on the exam."
Hermione seemed to wake up suddenly, instinctively straightening up and muttering in confusion, "An exam?"
"Merlin's beard!" Anthony's voice was filled with disbelief as he whispered to Wizet and the others, "Hermione actually dozed off!"
Bathsheda Babbling said, "Runes is very ancient; it has accompanied almost the entire development of wizardry, playing various roles throughout..."
"In fact, it has been integrated into every aspect of life, but you may not have noticed... Can anyone tell me where it has played a role?"
"Those magical items?" Anthony slowly raised his hand, his tone tinged with uncertainty. "I remember they said... that making magical items often requires Runes."
"Excellent!" Bathsheda Babbling affirmed. "This is the most important part! Ravenclaw, five points! Anyone else want to answer?"
Hermione raised her hand as well, "I've seen Runes on some magical buildings... Wai... they told me that those Runes are the foundation of the entire magical building."
"Very meticulous! Extremely meticulous! Five points for Gryffindor!" Bathsheda Babbling nodded. "Various magical structures also require the use of Runes!"
"If you dare to do what Fred and George did, and dismantle a brick from Hogwarts to study it, you can observe the Runes on it if you do it properly."
Amidst the students' laughter, she continued, "Through Mr. Goldstein and Miss Granger's descriptions, have you discovered Runes?"
The laughter subsided, and the students tried flipping through their textbooks to find the answers.
"Does anyone know?" Bathsheda Babbling waited for five minutes before finally seeing Wizet raise her hand. "Mr. Lovegood!"
"Usually, Runes are used in all sorts of physical objects, from small magical gadgets to large magical buildings," Wizet said. "But it seems very rare for them to be used directly in magic."
"From what I understand, this situation arises because the power of Runes themselves... necessitates a 'medium' to function effectively."
He noticed this because of the "Thunder" in The Wizard Combat Guide and the Petrification Curse Order he had acquired;
In order to study the "?" Petrification Curse Order, he consulted many related books in the library and finally made a discovery in "Develop Yourself and Runes in Your Internal Organs";
The original Runes were difficult to control, and it was through the improvement of generations of wizards that they evolved into the version that is now widely used.
During the process of improvement, many excellent related materials were created, which was also the main goal of the Ancient Runes class —to learn how to translate these materials.
"Ravenclaw gets a perfect score!" Bathsheda Babbling smiled. "Runes are mostly used for tangible things; they're very concise summaries."
"Mr. Lovegood is right. Runes needs the help of a 'medium' to better assist the wizard and achieve the desired effect."
"Let's open ' Ancient Runes Made Easy ' to page twelve. This lesson will begin with this Runes."
She wrote a Runes "?" on the blackboard and explained the meaning and purpose of the symbol.
"This Runes is very effective. It has protective magic and can bring you unexpected good fortune. Think about where you can use it?"
A Hufflepuff student raised his hand and tentatively asked, "Professor Babbling, when brewing Potions... is it permissible to use this Runes?"
"Of course!" Bathsheda Babbling said. "Brewing Potions does require some luck and some protection to prevent accidents from happening to the cauldron."
"It can be used to brew Potions!"
Upon hearing this, the students stared wide-eyed at the Runes, as if trying to memorize it...
