After Li Xiaozheng recruited him for an expedition to the Great Ming Treasure Ship, Chen Shi discovered that Xiao Wu had once rampaged at Ganyang Mountain, and Madam Huali warned him that the mountain was polluted.

• Chen Shi challenged the Li Family after killing Mr. Zeng, then returned to Ganyang Mountain and advanced his cultivation with the Mountain Lord’s help and captured evil spirits.
• Chen Shi slew the flood dragon Shangshan, confronted Yan Jingsi’s family, and killed Yan Jingsi by forcing his Nascent Soul into a lamb’s body.
• Chen Shi met Madam Huali and brought Ding Ding to Huangpo Village, then took a job in Sanhe Village, where the Date Tree Godmother’s parasitized villagers attacked them.
• Chen Shi exposed the Green-robed Scholar as the one who had released the Thread-Pulling Worms, but the scholar escaped after Chen Shi wounded him.

After destroying the Life Harvesting Hall and losing Zhao Kaiyun, he faced official punishment as the story turned toward the coming examinations and a strange corpse cloud near Xijing.

• Chen Shi and Li Tianqing reached the Great Ming Treasure Ship, where Chen Shi repaired its talismans and fought off the noble families before the ship carried them through the True King’s Tomb and back onto the Dejiang River.
• Created Being Xiao Wu met Chen Shi, learned Chen Yindu had died, and briefly stayed with Chen Shi before leaving for Xijing after Chen Shi called him Dad.
• Chen Shi left Huangpo Village for Gongzhou, escaped a forged indenture, and met Hu Feifei, who brought him to the Governor-General’s Academy and the Official Posthouse.
• Chen Shi joined Red Mountain Hall as an instructor, befriended the Red Mountain Empress, and found the abandoned Mazu Temple at Yanxia Ridge.
• After Han Mingyu attacked him with Life Harvesting Dolls, Chen Shi destroyed the dolls and pursued Han Mingyu to the Life Harvesting Hall, where he found Zhao Kaiyun mutilated.
• Chen Shi killed Han Mingyu, Instructor Hu, Yu Daozhi, and the hall’s remaining disciples, but Zhao Kaiyun died as the Life Harvesting Hall collapsed.

Chen Shi and his companions faced Chan Master Kuzhu’s mushroom-born demonic disaster in Gongzhou, then an even greater demon awakened inside Chen Shi and devastated the city. The arc left Chen Shi’s soul in the Underworld, where Black Pot found him and carried him away.

• Chen Shi helped Red Mountain Hall learn the correct methods of cultivation, while Black Pot’s power caused people to forget Chen Shi’s name.
• Chan Master Kuzhu’s golden body spread a mushroom infestation through Gongzhou, and Chen Shi used Empress Shi Ji’s head to petrify the city and slow the disaster.
• Chen Shi and Li Tianqing searched for food, rescued Granny Minjiang from the officials, and learned that Kuzhu’s mushroom form was tied to a demon seed beneath the city.
• Chen Shi escaped Gongzhou with Li Tianqing, Black Pot, Red Mountain Empress, and Granny Minjiang, while the Golden Body Buddha transformed much of the city into mushrooms.
• Chen Shi made Granny Minjiang the Minjiang Dragon King, and his group joined her and Red Mountain Empress in defeating Tianmu and the incense masters as the mushroom Pure Land collapsed.
• An old beggar abducted Chen Shi and killed him, awakening the being within him, which killed Gongzhou’s officials and attacked the rogue cultivators.
• Granny Sha used Chen Shi’s clothes and the Ram Horn Heavenly Spirit Lamp to locate his soul in the Underworld, and Black Pot leaped through the flames to find him.
• Chen Shi ate underworld lotuses that strengthened his soul and revealed talismanic scripts on his brow, then Black Pot rescued him from a giant ghost and carried him away.

Chen Shi rescued the children of Taiping Gate, defended Gongzhou from sea monsters, and learned that his cultivation carried a limited lifespan. After pursuing the Young Master of Yudu and confronting his agents, Chen Shi ended the arc attacking the women who had threatened Little Bastard.

• Chen Shi defeated Taiping Gate and freed its captive children, then gave them Soul-Returning Lotuses and arranged for them to find new homes.
• Chen Shi harvested more lotuses from the Underworld, helped defend Gongzhou from sea monsters, and appointed Red Mountain Empress as Mazu, the Great Maritime Transport Goddess.

• Chen Shi discovered that the Eight Extremes Golden Palace Divine Chapter revealed his Golden Core would dissipate in 487 years, and Li Tianqing chose to abandon his own Golden Core.
• Chen Shi killed the officials who had wronged Tian Huaiyi and Shen Yusheng, fought the Young Master’s agents, and spared Pei the Scholar after learning about the Young Master’s Divine Embryo.
• Chen Shi traveled toward Yudu, killed Qian Xiangzhu at the Bath Capital, and entered a courtyard where Madam offered him a place with the Young Master or demanded his money and pills.
