But even if I was willing to help the doctor and play the role of a savior, how many enemies were there, and where were they?
The doctor only knew that he had been reduced to this state by another "me" from a parallel space. But which parallel space, and how many versions of "me" had come—he knew nothing at all.
What he had done was playing with fire to begin with, and he had played far too big.
Without realizing it, he had drawn countless enemies to himself, and perhaps each one was crazier and more terrifying than the last.
Even Yuan Jiang thought the doctor was insane. In his view, parallel spaces were like Pandora's Box. Once opened, who knew what monsters and demons might emerge?
"We're looking for someone. I imagine finding a person in this space shouldn't be difficult for you, right?" I asked the doctor.
The doctor gave a bitter smile. "In the past, it certainly wouldn't have been difficult. But look at me now..." He truly was in a miserable state, and he looked pitiful as well as frightening.
"Is there really nothing you can do? I don't believe it. You should have some kind of secret base here, shouldn't you?"
I still refused to believe the doctor had left himself no backup plan at all.
If he truly had no contingency whatsoever, then he had been far too careless.
"I do have a secret base. I just don't know whether they've discovered it."
I smiled. A base was good enough. I just didn't know whether it was far from here.
"Is it far?" Yuan Jiang asked before I could.
The doctor said, "Leopard Valley."
Yuan Jiang and I were both startled. We exchanged a glance. What a coincidence—weren't we heading to Leopard Valley
