In a hundred years, how much has technology changed? How greatly have human lives improved? Yet after a hundred years, cancer still leaves medical workers helpless. Does that seem normal?"
It really did seem abnormal.
He sneered. "Perhaps you don't know this, but there is a special organization that stands above every nation in the world. It is so secretive that even all the countries merely suspect its existence; no one has ever truly known what kind of organization it is. It has enormous power and does certain things in secret, including preventing the accelerated progress of human civilization. Achievements in medicine, especially, have always had their lifeline tightly strangled by them."
The first thing his words made me think of was the Administration Bureau, but I knew very well how the Administration Bureau had come into being. It did not fit the special, mysterious organization he described.
"This organization has a rather pleasant name," he continued. "It is called the Ecological Alliance."
The Ecological Alliance? It sounded like some kind of environmental protection organization.
