Background / History

Before obtaining a body, Jiang Xiaohui existed within an independent domain and worked toward being “born.” He created a looping-time domain, anticipated Jiang Xiaobai's arrival, and had prepared the circumstances needed for his emergence 863. Having considered himself a dead person, he chose the name Xiaohui—“gray”—both to parallel Jiang Xiaobai and to reflect his bleak state of mind 882 883.

Jiang Xiaobai initially viewed him with guilt and revulsion, believing Xiaohui had been willing to use unscrupulous methods for the right to live. Xiaohui nevertheless refused the Doctor's proposed arrangement concerning Guiguzi's memories, even though cooperation could have benefited his own chance at life 883.

The Doctor later revived Xiaohui in a body modeled exactly after Jiang Xiaobai. Newly awake, Xiaohui tested the old man's strength, challenged Jiang Xiaobai, and then chose to remain at Jiang Xiaobai's side 905.
