Selfishness, Dilemma

When Guiguzi heard that I was going with Chang Shuai to meet some Old Man Tianshu, he stopped me. "Are you crazy? You believe what they say too?"

As he spoke, he tried to come over and grab me.

But the woman stepped between him and me, blocking his path. She smiled and said, "Whether he goes or not is his business. Why are you getting so worked up? Besides, weren't we supposed to catch up? By the time we're done talking, he'll probably be back!"

Guiguzi shouted angrily, "Don't think I won't hit a woman!"

The woman's smile vanished. "Hit me, then. Go on. I know how capable you are. Didn't you beat me enough in the past?"

At her outburst, Guiguzi's momentum immediately fizzled out. Could she really have been right? Had Guiguzi beaten women before? If so, Princess Jinshu must have taken quite a few beatings from him.

Chang Shuai seemed not to care about the confrontation between Guiguzi and the woman. He simply looked at me with a smile, as though asking whether I was going or not.

I hesitated for a moment, then said, "Let's go!"

Guiguzi called out, "Kid, keep your wits about you. Don't get sold off and still help count the money."

The woman said flatly, "You think everyone is as scheming as you are!"

Guiguzi said nothing more. Chang Shuai and I left side by side.

I had no idea where we were going. I only knew to follow Chang Shuai.

He hadn't brought anyone with him. All his subordinates had stayed behind with the woman.

"Don't you have anything you want to ask me?" Chang Shuai glanced at me and asked with a smile.

I shook my head. I had many doubts, but I didn't know what I should ask.
