Background / History
Daigo serves as a GUTS operative and pilots the Guts Wing. During Melba's attack, his aircraft crashes into a forest. Rather than dying in the explosion, Daigo becomes a stream of energy and merges with the nearby Tiga Stone Statue, awakening as Ultraman Tiga. 416
Confused by his transformation, Daigo meets Xiao Zhen in a park after receiving a message from him. He asks why he can become Tiga, establishing Xiao Zhen as the one person able to clarify aspects of his new identity. 417
His first battles reveal a severe gap between Tiga's immense power and Daigo's actual combat skill. After being overwhelmed by a Kirieiloid, he humbly asks Xiao Zhen to train him so that he can better protect Earth. 419 420
Personality
Daigo is resolute and duty-driven. Even when facing enemies he believes he cannot defeat, he chooses to act rather than evacuate or abandon others. 492 493
He is compassionate to a fault, believing that aliens should not automatically be treated as enemies and attempting to seek coexistence with the Kirieiloids despite their attacks. 457 His empathy also extends to civilians manipulated by threats such as Kijera, whose influence leaves him distressed and uncertain how humanity can overcome its desires. 476
Though initially overconfident in his human combat ability, Daigo accepts humiliation and repeated defeats as necessary training. After Xiao Yan throws him to the ground, he continues practicing until his fighting ability visibly improves. 420
Abilities & Skills
Ultraman Tiga Transformation
Daigo transforms by raising the Spark Lens, merging with Tiga's light to assume the form of Ultraman Tiga. 416 421
- Multi Type — Tiga's standard form; its available power is described as greater than Achilles' contemporary output. 421
- Power Type — a red form used for stronger physical combat and against heavily armored monsters. 416 422
- Sky Type — a purple form that substantially increases Tiga's speed. 421
- His access to Tiga's power can be interrupted or appear lost, but he later transforms again with the Bronze Rod. 508 509 510
Light Techniques
As Tiga, Daigo can form and throw a High-Speed Light Wheel capable of severing Gatanothor's tentacles. 495
- Can gather energy for powerful finishing attacks alongside allies. 495
- His attacks initially prove ineffective against Gatanothor's extraordinary defense. 495
- Prolonged combat and Gatanothor's petrifying power can force Tiga back into stone form. 496
Combat Training
Xiao Zhen trains Daigo through physical sparring, Giant-form combat, and direct correction of his technique. 420 421
- Learns through repeated sparring against Xiao Yan, who defeats him despite being a child. 420
- Receives instruction on controlling Tiga's power rather than relying on raw strength and speed. 421
- His combat ability improves steadily through continued training, though not through a sudden leap in power. 454
Piloting
Daigo pilots GUTS aircraft, including the Guts Wing.
- His Guts Wing is destroyed after Melba's attack during Tiga's awakening. 416
- He later crashes another Guts Wing amid magnetic interference while investigating the Space Observation Center with Horii. 447
- He claims to have improved his piloting skills through practice with Shinjoh, while admitting that he still crashes aircraft at times. 465
