Background / History

Kushina entered the Ninja Academy mid-term as a child. Kei was one of the few classmates who did not mock her red hair; after mistaking his delicate appearance for that of a girl, she asked him to accompany her to the girls’ bathroom. She later gave him the nickname “Pig Girl,” a joke that remained part of their relationship. 4

As the second Nine-Tails Jinchūriki after Mito Uzumaki, Kushina wanted to leave her own mark on Konoha rather than be defined by others’ fear or dislike of her status. 11 She fiercely rejected Shimura Danzō’s attempt to seize the Uzumaki Clan’s sealing techniques, receiving support from several Konoha clans during the confrontation. 3

Her relationship with Yamanaka Kei developed from childhood friendship into romance.
