Background / History

Wang Yuan was once a martial arts grandmaster. He later entered immortal cultivation through the legacy of a senior who had used Fiend Qi to refine the body and transform martial arts principles into immortal arts. That legacy included the Bright Spirit Breaking Evil technique, but its creator eventually lost his mind to Fiend Qi and entered the demonic path. Wang Yuan regarded this predecessor as an indirect reason he was able to begin cultivating. 120

Rather than follow a conventional Qi Refining path, Wang Yuan focused on body refinement. He believed that a sufficiently powerful body and a qualitative transformation of Qi and blood could force a path through the Foundation Establishment barrier. 79

He became known in Great River Market as its foremost Qi Refining combatant. By the time he met Luo Chen, he was a late-stage Qi Refining Rogue Cultivator and a protective senior figure to him. 18 302 Wang Yuan later entered the Mountain Shattering Gang, won a place on the Heaven’s Pride Ranking through the Fallen Phoenix Mountain contest, and offered Luo Chen protection and a place within the gang. 65

Personality

Wang Yuan is restrained, blunt, and intensely practical. He treats danger as an unavoidable condition of cultivation and favors decisive action over empty displays. His outward indifference often conceals concern for those he accepts as his own, particularly Luo Chen and his disciple Zeng Yilong. 36 460 500

He is also ruthless in his pursuit of advancement. His Blood Dao Foundation Establishment method required the extraction of another cultivator’s essence blood, cultivation foundation, and soul; he accepted its cruelty and risks rather than abandon the path after his first failure. 134 192 254

Despite claiming to dislike attachments, Wang Yuan acknowledges that he would act within his ability to save Luo Chen or Zeng Yilong. 460

Appearance

Wang Yuan possesses an exceptionally developed body shaped by body-refinement cultivation.

  • His bare body can radiate a diamond-like sheen in battle. 64
  • His bones are described as white jade, crystal-clear beneath his skin. 254
  • Dense Qi and blood rise from him like wolf-smoke during the Blood Evil Spirit-Seizing ritual. 254
  • The Blood Evil Spirit-Seizing Array was engraved directly across the muscles of his back. 254

Abilities & Skills

Ancient Body Refinement

Wang Yuan follows the Ancient Body Refinement path, using a Physical Body and immense Qi and blood as his primary means of combat. 64

  • Can meet magical artifacts and flying swords with his bare hands. 235 285 1089
  • Crushed a magical-artifact flying sword after exhausting his spiritual power. 285
  • His physical strength and Qi-blood force allow him to fight cultivators above his apparent realm. 278
  • His slow early mobility was a significant weakness against opponents who could keep their distance. 278

Martial Arts Mastery

As a former martial arts grandmaster, Wang Yuan is proficient in all eighteen weapon types and applies mortal martial arts at a level capable of threatening Foundation Establishment cultivators. 153 285

  • Uses saber, fist, palm, staff, and close-quarters techniques.

  • Used Pointing Soldiers and Rivers to turn an iron staff into a barrage of staff shadows. 153

Bright Spirit Breaking Evil

A body-refinement technique inherited from a demonic-cave legacy. It uses Fiend Qi to refine the body before refining essence into Qi, adapting martial arts into immortal arts. 120

  • Forms part of Wang Yuan’s route from mortal martial arts to cultivation.
  • Carries the demonstrated danger of Fiend Qi corrupting the mind over time. 120

Blood Evil Spirit-Seizing Array

A blood-path secret array Wang Yuan developed by combining the Heavenly Craft Spirit-Seizing Array with Blood Path secret techniques acquired from Xiao Wuyan’s legacy. 187

  • Engraved on his back to use his own body as the array’s foundation. 254
  • Uses blood as a source and Qi to guide the seizure of a target’s essence blood, flesh, bones, cultivation foundation, and soul. 254
  • Was used first on Duan Qiankun, but the attempt failed and left Wang Yuan with severe aftereffects. 192
  • The array allows only three attempts; after choosing this Blood Dao route, Wang Yuan could no longer use ordinary Foundation Establishment methods. 192 254
  • Min Longyu helped perfect the array, while Spirit Communication Pills improved Wang Yuan’s soul foundation to resist remnant-soul interference. 254

Blood God Tribulation Finger

A killing move developed after Wang Yuan comprehended changes in Qi and blood, using Manifested Force as its core. 381

  • Leaves numerous finger-width holes in the battlefield.
  • Was created by drawing on the strengths of multiple schools. 381

A magic tool compatible with Wang Yuan’s Body Refinement path. 285

  • Huo Hu — Second target of the Blood Evil Spirit-Seizing Array and the source of Wang Yuan’s successful Foundation Establishment attempt. 254

Story Role / Major Arcs

Great River Market and Mountain Shattering Gang

Wang Yuan serves as one of Luo Chen’s earliest sources of protection, combat guidance, spells, and resources. He warns Luo Chen about the danger posed by stronger factions and directs him to seek help at the Mountain Shattering Gang headquarters if necessary. 36

He later defeats the Blood Path Cultivator Xiao Wuyan in the Fallen Phoenix Mountain contest, relying on superior Qi and blood, bare-handed body refinement, and saber skill. The victory earns him recognition from the Jade Cauldron Sword Sect and a position on the Heaven’s Pride Ranking. 64 65

Blood Dao Foundation Establishment

Wang Yuan’s pursuit of Foundation Establishment becomes centered on the Blood Fiend Pill and the Blood Evil Spirit-Seizing Array. He collects the essence blood of more than one hundred cultivators for potential pill refinement, then attempts to seize Duan Qiankun’s cultivation through his modified array. 134 187

The first attempt fails, leaving him unable to return to conventional methods and with only two further chances. After years of preparation, soul strengthening, and array refinement, he performs the ritual again on Huo Hu under Luo Chen’s protection. 192 254

Luo Tian Association

After Foundation Establishment, Wang Yuan becomes a major combat pillar of the Luo Tian Association. He kills Foundation Establishment cultivator Cao Wanchun by snapping his neck and helps intimidate hostile forces at Danxia Peak. 235

He later takes Zeng Yilong as his disciple and trains him as a body refiner, investing substantial resources into the boy despite his stated distaste for sectarian attachments and inheritance. 321 500
