Background / History

Xiao Yan began as the Xiao Family’s formerly celebrated young master, later branded a “waste” after his cultivation declined. His recovery and three years of harsh training give him the strength to honor the Three-Year Pact with Nalan Yanran at Misty Cloud Sect. He arrives carrying the Black Heavy Ruler and insists that the contest be decided by “life and death, each by heaven’s will.” 82

During the pact, Xiao Yan proves that he is no longer the youth Nalan Yanran dismissed. He fights her evenly as a Dou Grandmaster, relies on close-quarters skill and physical strength to pressure her, and unveils two differently colored flames to form Buddha’s Rage Fire Lotus. 83 84
