That line—"Believe it or not, with my next breath, I can blow you to death"—was not a question. It was a verdict.
Every word became an invisible icy current, piercing through the eternal spiritual winds of Kunlun Mountain and burrowing into the Dao Hearts of every Golden Immortal present.
That was not arrogance.
It was the statement of a cold fact they could not comprehend, yet had no choice but to believe.
Before the gates of Jade Void Palace, the plaza paved with immortal jade had completely become a dead zone.
The wind stopped.
The clouds froze.
Time and space themselves seemed to have been cowed by the dominance contained within those words, a dominance that transcended all the laws of the Primordial World, and fell into absolute stagnation.
"You insolent brat! How dare you!"
The deathly silence was torn apart by a furious roar.
It was Chi Jingzi!
His eyes were bloodshot as he looked at his senior brother Guang Chengzi, embedded deep in the mountainside. Guang Chengzi had already passed out, his Dao body covered in cracks, his aura so weak that he was nearly falling from the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm. The bond between fellow disciples and his duty to uphold the dignity of the Chan Sect instantly overwhelmed the fear rooted deep within his Divine Soul.
Buzz—
The Male-Female Twin Swords in his hand let out a shrill wail. Two streams of sword qi, one yin and one yang, shot into the heavens, stirring the winds and clouds as their blades pointed straight at Yang Chen's brow.
"Form the array!"
True Person Taiyi's beard and hair stood on end as well. He had never suffered such utter humiliation!
The Nine Dragon Divine Fire Cover rose above his head. Nine lifelike phantoms of fire dragons circled and roared, their eyes no longer holding the serenity of immortals, but a towering fury capable of burning away all corners of heaven and earth.
The Soul-Dropping Bell, the Yin-Yang Mirror, the Wu Gou Twin Swords...
In an instant, the remaining Chan Sect Golden Immortals all broke free from that terror of being dominated, and overwhelming waves of mana erupted.
More than a dozen innate and acquired spiritual treasures rose into the air together, their dazzling radiance instantly illuminating the entire peak of Kunlun Mountain as brightly as day!
The "Heavenly Law" domain that Yang Chen had scattered with a single breath gathered once more under the impetus of their rage, taking on an even more violent and razor-sharp form.
Killing intent!
Killing intent so intense that even Quasi-Saints would avoid it, transformed into a tangible tidal wave that completely swallowed Yang Chen.
They no longer cared about making an example of him, nor did they care about the face of a Saint.
If they could not suppress this fiend here today, then the Chan Sect would become the laughingstock of the entire Primordial World!
Yet faced with this combined strike powerful enough to overturn heaven and earth, Yang Chen did not even bother assuming a defensive stance.
He merely raised his eyelids, his lazy gaze sweeping over the faces twisted by rage and over the spiritual treasures that had left behind such illustrious reputations in the Primordial World.
His expression did not change.
It was an utter indifference.
As though this scene of world-ending destruction was, in his eyes, no different from children in a mortal village squabbling.
Just before those dozen or so divine abilities were about to touch his body.
"Hmph."
A cold snort.
A cold snort devoid of any mana fluctuations, yet seemingly originating from the source of the Heavenly Dao and containing the ultimate truths of the universe, drifted leisurely from deep within the cloud-shrouded, eternally majestic Jade Void Palace.
That snort was very soft.
Yet it possessed the supreme power to make words become law and alter reality itself.
Boom!!!
The dozen or so spiritual treasures, already unleashing their greatest power, had their radiance abruptly dim like illusions pierced apart the instant they came into contact with that cold snort. They let out cries of unbearable strain and fell from the sky.
That terrifying killing intent, condensed to its utmost and capable of tearing open the firmament, was instantly wiped away as if by an invisible hand, vanishing into thin air.
Chi Jingzi, True Person Taiyi, and all the other Golden Immortals shuddered violently, as though struck by lightning.
They only felt an irresistible will of majesty descend directly upon the origin of their Divine Souls. Their overwhelming rage and boiling killing intent were frozen in an instant, as though sealed beneath ten thousand years of black ice.
They fell silent as cicadas in winter.
Everyone froze where they stood, maintaining their attacking postures yet unable to move even a fraction.
Their faces were filled with shock and fury, but in the end, all of it became deep reverence and a trace of... humiliation.
It was their master.
Their master had acted.
Not to deal with that madman, but to... stop them.
"All of you, withdraw."
Primal Celestial Venerable's voice slowly rang out, calm and devoid of discernible emotion.
Yet every word was like an ancient divine mountain crashing down upon the hearts of the Golden Immortals, nearly suffocating them.
"Fellow Daoist Yang Chen is my honored guest. Do not be disrespectful."
Honored guest?
Upon hearing those two words, the hearts of Chi Jingzi and the others sank heavily.
They knew that from the moment their master spoke, the Chan Sect... had already lost this confrontation.
They had lost utterly and completely.
"Fellow Daoist, please enter the hall so we may speak."
That final sentence was directed at Yang Chen.
Though the voice remained calm, Yang Chen could hear within it a cold fury forcibly suppressed beneath an abyss ten thousand zhang deep.
Clearly, his earlier act of using "a single breath" had thoroughly enraged this lofty Saint of the Heavenly Dao.
But so what?
Yang Chen did not care in the slightest.
He did not even glance at the Golden Immortals frozen in place, as though they were merely a group of irrelevant stone statues.
He raised a hand and lightly brushed the nonexistent dust from his plain azure Daoist robe.
The gesture was casual, and full of contempt.
Then he stepped forward, walking straight through the "human wall" formed by the Chan Sect's strongest forces and entering the gates of Jade Void Palace, the symbol of the orthodox Heavenly Dao and the place where all immortals paid homage.
He walked very slowly.
Every step seemed to trample upon the shattered pride in the hearts of the Chan Sect immortals.
He passed by Chi Jingzi.
Chi Jingzi gritted his teeth fiercely. The Male-Female Twin Swords in his hands still trembled faintly, not from anger, but from the instinctive terror of his master's will rising from the depths of his Divine Soul.
He passed by True Person Taiyi.
True Person Taiyi's blazing eyes stared fixedly at Yang Chen's profile. The glow of the Nine Dragon Divine Fire Cover flickered unsteadily, yet it could no longer kindle even a single spark.
He passed by True Person Yu Ding.
This Golden Immortal, renowned for his composure and wisdom, wore no expression at all. Yet within those deep eyes, a storm of waves a hundred million zhang high raged wildly.
He passed by True Lord Qingxu Daode.
He remained calm and unhurried all the way.
It was as though he was not venturing into a dragon's pool or tiger's den, but merely strolling through his own backyard.
All the Chan Sect disciples within Jade Void Palace watched his slender back with gazes mixed with hatred, fear, and utter disbelief.
Only when those heavy white jade doors slowly closed before them, cutting off all sight, did they look away.
Deathly silence.
After a long, suffocating silence, someone finally broke it with a trembling voice.
"He... what kind of monster is he?"
No one answered.
They finally understood.
They understood completely.
This Yang Chen, this madman burdened by boundless karmic sin, was absolutely not someone who could be cowed with mere pressure and intimidation.
His strength, his courage, and that fundamental contempt with which he regarded a Saint's orthodoxy as nothing all far exceeded their imagination, far exceeded their definition of the word "powerful."
One breath.
Just one breath had severely wounded their senior brother, who wielded the Fan Tian Seal.
One sentence had forced their master to personally intervene, forcibly suppress everyone's fury, and grudgingly acknowledge him as an "honored guest."
How absurd was that!
And how... terrifying!
True Person Yu Ding slowly closed his eyes. When he opened them again, every emotional storm within had settled, leaving only unfathomable gravity.
He knew that if today's events spread, Yang Chen's reputation for "severely wounding Guang Chengzi with one breath and intimidating the Chan Sect immortals" would once again shake the entire Primordial World.
And the Chan Sect would become his stepping stone.
A stepping stone... paved with a Saint's dignity.
