"Hand over the suitcase!"
Fujino ignored the looks from the people around him and continued to shout sternly at the woman.
"No!"
The woman continued acting on her own. "I already told you, I won't accept your advances! What more do you want from me?!"
Since the soft approach did not work, he could only use force.
Fujino frowned, activated the system enhancement, grabbed the woman by both arms, and threw her over his shoulder.
The suitcase flew from the woman's hand and soared into the air.
"Conan! Catch the suitcase!"
"Got it!"
Conan leaped through the air like a little Shiba Inu, catching the suitcase in midair. His back slammed into the floor as he shielded the suitcase containing the bomb.
"How can you treat a woman like that, young man?!"
At that moment, a man who disliked Fujino's behavior rose from his seat and threw a punch at him.
Fujino glanced back, his sharp eyes fixed on the man's movements.
The next moment, he swung a roundhouse kick straight into the man's waist.
"Oh!"
The man was kicked into a nearby seat, clutching his lower back and howling in pain.
But once one person stepped forward, another would follow after he fell.
Looking at the outraged good citizens throughout the carriage, Fujino immediately sensed that things were going badly.
If this continued, he would become everyone's target.
After thinking for a moment, before more people could turn against him, he shouted, "There's a bomb in that woman's suitcase! Do you all want to die?!"
"A bomb?!"
At those words, the passengers in the carriage began to panic.
The crowd surged toward the doors in an attempt to escape, knocking the burly man who had just tried to uphold justice to the floor.
Someone had apparently stepped on his back, leaving two footprints there.
Yet after struggling to his feet, he still managed to flee the carriage.
Before long, only Fujino and Conan remained on the second floor of the first-class carriage.
"So, can this case be opened?"
Fujino slowly walked over to Conan and asked.
"It won't open."
Conan gave it a try and shook his head. "Looks like this suitcase has been locked..."
Before he could finish, Fujino had already made his move.
He punched the combination lock open.
"Hey! What is Fujino doing?!"
Conan was clearly frightened by Fujino and panicked. "Aren't you afraid it'll explode?!"
"This kind of bomb won't explode that easily."
Fujino opened the suitcase himself, looked at the detonators tied inside, and took a deep breath.
He then explained, "A C4 bomb. This type of explosive is very stable... it won't explode even if exposed to an open flame."
"And from what you said earlier, the person who planted it couldn't have installed a device that detonated when opened. If something went wrong, he'd be dead too."
"Then what do we do now?"
Conan stared at the bomb in front of Fujino and swallowed.
They absolutely could not let it explode inside the carriage!
If explosives of this magnitude detonated while the train was speeding along, everyone on the train would be doomed!
Ran too...
"Looks like there's only one way."
Muttering to himself, Fujino pulled a pair of nail clippers from his pocket.
"Are you going to defuse the bomb?!"
Conan hurriedly grabbed Fujino's hand and tried to persuade him.
"Don't do anything rash!"
"One mistake, and everyone on this train will die!"
"If I don't know how to defuse bombs, do you?!"
Fujino suddenly fixed Conan with an icy gaze. "Other than defusing it, do we have any other options?"
Conan asked suspiciously, "Are you sure you can defuse this bomb?"
"No one understands bomb disposal better than me."
Fujino glanced at Conan and pushed him aside. "Kids shouldn't get in the way here. Get out, quickly..."
"Fujino..."
Conan's gaze toward Fujino suddenly became unfocused.
So he had misunderstood this guy...
"Either way, we'll die."
Conan's gaze hardened as well. "If this bomb explodes on the train, no one can escape. I'll stay here and defuse it with you."
Fujino glanced at Conan but said nothing more...
The only reason he wanted the brat to leave was because having him in the way made it hard to work. Who knew what the kid had gotten into his head?
Fujino tightly gripped the nail clippers capable of cutting through any wire and carefully opened the suitcase. Inside was a block of C4 explosive powerful enough to blow an entire carriage apart, with a tangled mess of wires extending from it.
As Fujino stared at the remote-controlled bomb before him, the corner of his mouth curled into a faint smile.
On the first night after obtaining the Complete Book of Bomb Knowledge, he had already mastered everything in it.
At that moment, the bomb's structure became perfectly clear in his eyes.
In an instant, the method for defusing the bomb flooded into his mind.
With the Bomb Expert skill's twenty percent success rate added in, he felt very confident about defusing the bomb before him.
And even if he failed, it would not matter.
At worst, he could just throw it out the train window.
Or put it into the system space...
Still, that might arouse unnecessary suspicion, so he could only pray that the defusal succeeded...
Bomb successfully defused. System reward: 50 Bomb Expert experience points.
The system notification sounded in his ear.
Fujino cut the final red wire and could not help letting out a sigh of relief.
He dropped onto the carriage floor, wiped the sweat from his temple, then took out a piece of gum from his pocket and began chewing it.
Seeing Fujino relax, Conan asked in confusion, "So? Did it work?!"
"Bomb defused."
"Whew..."
Conan also let out a long breath at those words.
His back was already soaked with cold sweat.
But why did Fujino know how to defuse bombs?
Wasn't he just a high school student?
Thinking of that, Conan could not help asking, "Fujino, where did you learn bomb disposal?"
"Ahem."
Fujino gave a light cough. "As a Full-time Detective, isn't it perfectly reasonable to know how to defuse bombs?"
He then changed the subject. "But speaking of which, Little Brother Conan, you should use honorifics when addressing your elders!"
Oh no!
Conan's expression stiffened at those words.
Because of the bomb, he had nearly forgotten that he was still supposed to be a child!
Realizing this, he hurriedly put on a childlike silly grin. "Got it, Big Brother Fujino!"
"Conan... and Senior Fujino?"
At that moment, a familiar voice sounded.
Fujino turned around and saw Ran standing at the carriage entrance, dressed in a white high-collared coat and velvet thigh-high socks.
Well, she was a perfectly nice girl. Being with that little brat Kudo Shinichi really was a waste.
Fujino silently commented to himself.
"Are you two all right?!"
Seeing the two sitting on the floor as though they had just survived a catastrophe, she asked in surprise, "Was there really a bomb in this carriage?!"
"There was..."
Fujino scratched the back of his head. "But I already defused it."
