Background / History

Ran is Fujino's classmate and neighbor across from the Mori Detective Agency. When he misses school for a month and cannot be reached, their teacher sends her to check on him. Seeing his malnourished state and apartment full of instant-noodle containers, she concludes that he is struggling after his parents' deaths and resolves to treat him to a proper meal. 1

She continues checking whether Fujino has eaten, partly because Hiratsuka asks her to watch over him. Her concern develops into a close, trusting friendship: she invites him to dinner at the Mori Detective Agency and later relies on him for advice when she discovers unsettling hidden photographs in Jodie's apartment. 8 12 871

Ran is deeply affected by her parents' conflicts. Eri eventually recognizes that her continued arguments with Kogoro have harmed Ran and resolves to visit the Mori household more often for her daughter's sake. 1282

Appearance

Ran is a long-haired high-school girl with a distinctive straight, horn-like forelock. Her resemblance to Princess Mira of Vespania is close enough to enable them to exchange identities, although those familiar with both can distinguish differences in their eyes and hair shape. 1192 1209

Personality

Ran is compassionate, conscientious, and quick to take responsibility for others. She worries about Fujino's wellbeing, looks after Conan as his guardian, and readily offers help to strangers whom she believes are in danger. 1 8 102 1193

Her kindness can leave her vulnerable to deception. Mira exploits Ran's trust by convincing her to switch clothes and then fleeing, leaving Ran to impersonate the princess. Ran can also be overly ready to accept explanations from people she trusts. 1139 1194

When someone close to her is threatened, Ran becomes fiercely protective. Her anger can overwhelm her usual gentleness; Fujino has to stop one of her kicks because it could have killed its target. 70 1279
