The Hero's Defection

The palace hall was gloomy and oppressive.

Kain had been summoned by the First Princess. He was currently kneeling on one knee, his head lowered.

"Kain Eugene, I intend to transfer you to the southern battlefield in Exar."

"The south? Are you going to wage war against Exar? But Exar is inhabited by humans!" Kain finally raised his head and looked toward Princess Pelo on the throne.

He did not want to face humans on the battlefield. Only demons were humanity's true enemy.

Besides, the Sacred Sword could not be used in wars against humans.

"Your Majesty, the Sacred Sword is ineffective against humans! It cannot be stained with human blood."

"Have you tried? Has anyone ever tried using the Sacred Sword to kill a person?" Princess Pelo's gaze carried a hint of amusement.

Before anyone tried it, no one could know for certain. They all claimed the Sacred Sword could not be stained with human blood, but what if someone insisted on using it to kill someone?

Kain was momentarily speechless. He did not know how to respond, because the education he had always received, along with his instincts, told him that the Sacred Sword absolutely could not be used against humans.

But how could one determine whether something untried was true or false? He simply did not want to kill humans on the battlefield.
