As Hiashi had said, this was an unsettled night.
Far away at the Akatsuki Organization headquarters in Amegakure, Nagato sat in his wheelchair and pushed himself to the window. Looking at the waning moon outside, he fell into deep thought.
Ever since he had sent Asura Path Pain to attack Konoha and sensed that Asura Path Pain had fallen there, Nagato had felt as though an ominous premonition had been hanging over him.
Perhaps he should not have so rashly tested Konoha.
The intelligence they had obtained on Naruto Uzumaki, Konoha's Fifth Hokage, was far too limited. Perhaps he should have thoroughly investigated Naruto Uzumaki first before making a move. That would have given him greater confidence.
The night grew deeper and deeper.
Yet Nagato did not feel the slightest bit sleepy.
He simply stared blankly out the window, lost in thought.

The door was gently pushed open. Konan walked in carrying a cup of hot water and asked, "Why are you still awake? It's already so late."
Nagato turned and glanced at Konan in her pajamas. Clearly, she had been preparing to sleep, but upon seeing that the light in his room was still on, she had brought him a cup of hot water.
"I can't sleep," Nagato said.
"Have some hot water first." Konan handed him the cup.
Nagato accepted it. The water was at just the right temperature, and he slowly drank it. As the hot water reached his stomach, his whole body warmed up, and the gloom in his heart seemed to fade somewhat as well.
Once Nagato had finished drinking, Konan took the empty cup and asked, "Is it because of Konoha?"
"Yes." Nagato nodded.
Konan smiled. "There's no need to worry too much. Didn't we make it through even harder times back then?"
