History

Founding and early legacy

Konoha was founded jointly by the Uchiha and Senju clans. By Naruto's era, both founding clans had largely disappeared: the Senju existed only in name, while the Uchiha had been exterminated. 36 234

Under the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, Konoha presented itself as a village built on the Will of Fire. However, Naruto later learned that Hiruzen had concealed Naruto's parentage and inherited assets, while Danzō conducted human experimentation and exploited the remains of powerful shinobi. 171 229 233

Naruto's rise and the Hokage crisis

Naruto developed his strength largely in isolation on Konoha's Back Mountain, where he leased land to establish a self-sustaining breeding farm. 13 182

After Naruto's power became impossible to ignore, Hiruzen attempted to publicly reveal that Naruto was the Fourth Hokage's son and secure his gratitude. The announcement failed to change the villagers' cold attitude toward Naruto. 219 221

Naruto confronted Hiruzen in the Hokage Building, collapsing the structure during their conflict. No one inside was injured because Hiruzen had assembled the villagers outside beforehand. 221 231

The village's major ninja clans largely declined to intervene in the battle. Their inaction reflected both their support for Naruto's younger generation of friends and their fear that their clans could suffer the same fate as the Senju and Uchiha under Sarutobi rule. 223 231

Fifth Hokage era

Following Hiruzen's death and Danzō's defeat, Konoha's clan heads unanimously nominated Naruto as the next Hokage. They considered him a politically neutral candidate because he lacked a clan of his own to favor and maintained friendships across the village's clans. 232

Naruto accepted the position after burying Minato Namikaze and Kushina's recovered bodies on the Back Mountain. 233

Before his inauguration, Naruto used thousands of Shadow Clones to conduct “friendly sparring” with the gathered civilian population. After the matches, the villagers publicly accepted him as a friend and supported his appointment as Fifth Hokage. 235 236

Society

Konoha's civilian population initially treated Naruto with prejudice and hostility, even after learning he was Minato's son. Their attitude shifted publicly only after Naruto's mass sparring event and the exposure of Sarutobi faction crimes. 221 234 235

The ninja clans possessed greater access to intelligence and political influence than ordinary civilians. Several clans knew Naruto's background before it became public and had restrained their children from joining the civilians' mistreatment of him. 233

After becoming Hokage, Naruto continued personally seeking out Konoha shinobi to make them his friends through his preferred sparring-based method. 276 285

Defense and major incidents

Orochimaru's invasion

Orochimaru abandoned the planned Konoha Crush after learning of Naruto's Hardening ability and overwhelming physical power. 152 160

When Orochimaru later attacked Naruto during the Chunin Exams, Naruto defeated and killed him. Hiruzen and other Kage witnessed the aftermath, leading Hiruzen to promote Naruto and Sasuke directly to Chūnin. 140

Asura Path Pain attack

Asura Path Pain attacked Konoha with missiles and other weapons, destroying homes and causing civilian casualties. Konoha shinobi, Jiraiya, Tsunade, Kakashi, and Anko mobilized to protect and evacuate the population. 297

Naruto removed Asura Path Pain from the village and defeated him in a remote wilderness, limiting further property damage to Konoha. 297 298

Akatsuki operation

In response to the attack, Naruto assembled a force including Sasuke, Jiraiya, Tsunade, Kakashi, Orochimaru, and Black Zetsu to disband Akatsuki in Amegakure. 299 301

The operation ended with Nagato and Konan joining Konoha's side, while Naruto arranged for Konan to oversee Amegakure and operate an explosive-tag factory. 310

Transition to the Ninja Alliance Nation

Naruto's travels and friendships with shinobi across the major villages led the Kage to form the Ninja Alliance Nation, with Naruto as its Shadow Emperor. 318

Four years later, Kishimoto City became the alliance's capital and political center. Nearly all Konoha ninja relocated there, with the former Leaf Village becoming a livestock-focused area centered on Naruto's breeding enterprise. 319
