In Hell's Kitchen, New York, territory of the Mexican Mafia, after finishing another day of guarding establishments and collecting protection money, the gang gathered together to drink and divide the spoils.
To people like them, as long as there was money to make and women to enjoy, they would not care even if a huge hole opened in the sky above New York and countless aliens poured through it.
If the aliens recruited followers, they would probably rush over to surrender immediately, becoming eager collaborators and traitors.
Just as the gangsters indulged in their drunken, dreamlike lives, the front doors were suddenly smashed open, and a fully armed group of NYPD officers stormed inside.
"NYPD! Drop your weapons and get on the ground! Now! Or we'll open fire! Get down!"
The gangsters froze at first, but then someone reached for a gun. That action immediately became the spark that set everything off.
A police bullet blew the thug's head apart, and dense gunfire erupted at once, throwing the scene into complete chaos.
"Damn it! How did you control the scene? You actually let it turn into a firefight? Useless!"
George Stacy was furious. Two days earlier, he had received a call from Wang Khan. He had been delighted to hear that Wang Khan wanted to donate five million dollars.
Then, after learning that Wang Khan's subordinate had been threatened by gangsters, he understood what was going on.
At the time, George had quietly mocked him in his heart.
Rich people really are impossible to understand.
Still, this was not the first time the NYPD had done private work for a wealthy sponsor. Besides, this time they were dealing with gangsters, who were already within their jurisdiction to crack down on. It was both justified and highly profitable—a perfect arrangement.
Over the next two days, George fully mobilized the personnel in his precinct and focused on investigating this Mexican Mafia group.
The investigation revealed that they dealt drugs, trafficked people, sold weapons, and dabbled in nearly every criminal business capable of making serious money.
The only reason the police had not targeted them was because the cops in Hell's Kitchen had failed to do their jobs.
In truth, this was normal in the United States. Hell's Kitchen was essentially New York's slum district, inhabited by low-income residents and the unemployed.
The people here paid very little in taxes, and accordingly, the precinct responsible for public safety in the area had the least funding, the fewest officers, and the worst equipment.
Poor police conditions indirectly encouraged crime, allowing countless gangs to settle here. Over time, the area became a lawless zone.
It could be said that as long as they did not cause too much trouble or create a serious social impact, the police around Hell's Kitchen would not crack down on gangs at all.
Now that George had taken over, things were naturally different.
"Director, their firepower is stronger than ours. Some of our brothers have already been injured. Should we pull back for now?"
One subordinate ran over in a panic. Before George could respond, Gwen, representing Umbrella Corporation, spoke first.
"Dad, these gangsters actually have such powerful weapons. If we let them remain, they'll cause a major incident sooner or later. We absolutely cannot let them go."
"Daughter, you're not wrong, but reality is often cruel. The NYPD is not the National Guard. Our weapons have limited stopping power, while they're using military-grade weapons. Their firepower is far beyond ours."
Gwen was not trying to get her father killed, so upon hearing that, she immediately drove her car over and opened the trunk.
"President Wang anticipated this long ago, so he prepared a secret weapon for you, Dad."
"A secret weapon? Smart Spider again?"
For various reasons, Smart Spider had not yet been widely distributed among ordinary police officers. The large early orders had all been intercepted by major intelligence agencies.
They would have to wait a while longer before they could use Smart Spider against gangs.
"Not Smart Spider. A more direct weapon. Come over and see for yourself."
George and several subordinates walked over. Gwen opened the case, revealing a set of Powered Armor before everyone.
"This is a new project our company is about to launch: individual Powered Armor, temporarily named Mars Armor. Not only is it equipped with powerful firepower, but it also carries the same Spider-Sense System as Smart Spider. In other words, whoever wears it will instinctively evade danger and remain invincible in one-on-one, or even one-against-many, gunfights."
As she spoke, Gwen picked up one of the armor's arm components and handed it to her father.
"Besides that, the armor can greatly enhance the user's strength and speed. With sufficient energy, it can even go toe-to-toe with Iron Man's armor."
Looking at the Mars Armor inside the case, George and the officers were all dumbfounded.
After a long while, George finally asked, "Daughter, is this thing reliable?"
Seeing that, Gwen directly took out the armor's various components and began putting them on herself.
"Dad, since you don't believe me, I'll wear it and deal with the gangsters inside."
"Are you crazy? Put that down... Fine, fine, I believe you, all right?"
George snatched the armor components from Gwen's hands and looked around at his subordinates. They immediately looked elsewhere. Some smoked, some chewed gum, and one flamboyant fellow even took out a compact mirror to fix his hair. In short, not a single one volunteered.
George rolled his eyes helplessly, then began putting on the armor himself.
"I'll do it! I trust Umbrella Corporation's technology. I'll personally lead the team and wipe out these gangsters."
Seeing this, Gwen happily helped her father put on the armor. Her expression made George feel even more speechless.
"Daughter, if anything happens to me, your mother and your younger brother and sister will depend on you."
"Just go without worry, Dad. I've got things covered at home."
"Ugh... Raising you was a waste."
Too exhausted to complain, George soon finished putting on the armor. It covered eighty percent of his body, making him look exceptionally imposing.
As for the appearance of the Mars Armor, it was modeled after the individual Powered Armor from Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars. Wang Khan had created it based on that design, and it looked almost identical.
As for weapons, George's set was equipped only with a heavy automatic rifle, with an ammunition belt extending to a box at his waist containing five hundred rounds.
The full version, aside from the machine gun, also included small missiles and even miniature nuclear bombs.
Of course, Wang Khan would never equip Mars Armor with nuclear bombs. Using those on Earth would instantly turn Umbrella Corporation into the enemy of the world.
"You look so mighty, Dad! Go without worry! With that thing, you can wipe out all the gangsters inside by yourself. I believe in you!"
George was already too tired to complain about his daughter trying to send her father to his death. After he put on the helmet, the armor system activated automatically. With infrared vision, thermal imaging, and other support systems, George instantly grasped everything happening at the scene. He could no longer sit still.
"Follow me! Let's wipe out these sons of bitches! Charge!"
A faint cracking sound came from beneath his feet as George shattered the asphalt. In an instant, he crossed six meters and slammed directly into a nearby police car, knocking it over.
George shook his arm and found that he felt no pain at all. His confidence soared. Without another word, he charged into the firefight at the front of the group.
