Background & History

Elles is the last known Divine Tree, descended from a race once spread across the sea. Her inherited memories are fragmented after the Sea Kings’ assault on the Divine Trees, leaving her uncertain which parts of her past remain complete or accurate 194 312.

After obtaining a human body, she names herself Ellestin-Huan, asking others to call her Elles while retaining a private attachment to the name Xiao Huan. She fears that abandoning her old name and identity would mean forgetting the tree she once was 158 162.

At God Valley, Elles appeals to the island’s plants for their light. Their gathered energy creates a massive green radiance visible across the island, drawing the attention of Rocks, the Celestial Dragons, Roger, and other factions 158 159. When Luo Han prepares to attack those obstructing him, her plea for God Valley’s plants helps stop him from indiscriminately destroying the island 161.

When she returns to the ruins of Ring Tree Island, Elles reconnects with her main body and gains enough energy to freely alter her size. She then reveals the true scope of her Mythical Zoan power: the ability to rapidly grow and control vegetation through the Power of Nature 171 172 173.

At Fish-Man Island, Elles communicates telepathically with the Yang Tree Eve through her special Observation Haki. She tells Eve that the Divine Trees were destroyed after Sea Kings were manipulated into attacking them by an ancient Mermaid Princess, then ends the former agreement between the Divine Trees and the Fish-Men 194.

Elles becomes a core member of Luo Han’s circle in the Eternal City, using her strength to train allies, cultivate strategic plants, and protect the people she considers family. She also becomes Ann’s principal guardian after Rouge entrusts the infant to her care 197 250 345.

During the final conflict, Elles kills herself rather than allow Chiyue to gain control over her mind. Luo Han later restores her through transferred Devil Fruit power, though he becomes disturbed by the feeling that the resurrected Elles is somehow not the same person he lost 431 433 434.
