"Na'er? That's a lovely name. Your voice is lovely too." Tang Wulin helped her to her feet.
Na'er lowered her head and fell silent again.
"Where are your father and mother? Where is your home?" Tang Wulin asked.
Na'er shook her head.
"Grrr..." A strange, discordant sound suddenly rang out.
Tang Wulin hurriedly lowered his head and looked at his stomach, but quickly realized that the sound had not come from him. Though Na'er's lowered little face was covered in quite a bit of dust, a faint blush could still be seen.
"You're hungry? If you can't find your father and mother, I'll take you back to my house. My mom's cooking is really delicious!" As he spoke, Tang Wulin grabbed Na'er's hand and headed toward his home.
Meanwhile, Nan Fusheng stood off to the side, staring blankly at the two of them as they walked away, like that subway old man meme.
No, even if the two of us might become enemies someday because of our different positions, was it really okay for you to value girls over friends like this? Especially that thing you said—you seemed to have said something similar to me just now!
"Mom, I'm back!" Tang Wulin shouted from outside before he had even entered, followed by Nan Fusheng, who had finally been remembered, and Na'er, whose face was still smeared with mud.
"You child, keep your voice down. Don't disturb the neighbors." Tang Wulin's mother spoke with mild reproach as the door opened.
Tang Wulin's mother, Lang Yue, was not exceptionally beautiful, but she possessed a mature charm.
"How was school today? Huh, how did you get so dirty?" Lang Yue frowned at her dust-covered son, only then noticing Na'er, whose hand Tang Wulin was holding, and Nan Fusheng standing beside them.
"Mom, I ran into bad guys." Tang Wulin vividly recounted what had just happened.
Naturally, Lang Yue pulled Tang Wulin into the house and gave him a good scolding. But under Tang Wulin's coquettish pleas, she could only choose to forgive him in the end.
Lang Yue crouched down and looked at Na'er and Nan Fusheng, who had yet to say a word. "Little ones, your names are Na'er and Nan Fusheng, right? Where are your father and mother?"
Just as before, Na'er merely shook her head without saying anything.
Nan Fusheng, however, spoke up. "Hello, Auntie. My home is in the building next door. My mom is next door, and my dad..." At this point, Nan Fusheng fell silent.
For a moment, the atmosphere turned quiet...
Lang Yue could tell that she seemed to have touched on something painful, so she immediately changed the subject.
"Look at you three, all filthy. Let me wash you up first and get you changed."
Five- and six-year-old children naturally had no awareness of gender differences. Lang Yue dragged the three children, who looked like little mud monkeys, into the bathroom and washed them clean.
When Tang Wulin asked his mother why Na'er was different from him and Nan Fusheng, Lang Yue merely smiled without answering. Na'er, however, shyly hid behind Lang Yue.
"Wow, Na'er, you're so pretty!" Innocent as children were, Tang Wulin sat beside the dining table with his chin propped in both hands, looking at Na'er beside him, who was wearing his clothes, and said it outright.
Tang Wulin's clothes looked a little loose on Na'er. But that did nothing to diminish her beauty.
Her skin was even fairer than Tang Wulin's, soft and rosy as though water could be squeezed out with a light pinch. Having just finished bathing, she gave off a faint, fresh fragrance. Delicately lovely, she looked just like a porcelain doll.
It was not yet dinner time, so Lang Yue brought out three plates of cookies and three glasses of milk for the three hungry children.
Though Na'er did not like talking, she showed no hesitation when it came to eating. She ate incredibly fast, polishing off the cookies and milk in front of her in no time.
Seeing this, Nan Fusheng directly handed over his own plate of cookies. "Eat them. I had a lot for lunch, so I'm not hungry now."
Na'er hesitated for a moment, but the cookies were clearly far too tempting for her. In the end, she began eating again.
Nan Fusheng drank his milk as he watched Lang Yue ask Na'er about her circumstances. In the end, all they learned was that Na'er was five and a half years old. Nothing else was known.
"In a little while, Mom will take Na'er to the Administrative Officer to check if they can find her family. Wulin, you and Fusheng play at home for a while first." Lang Yue finally took Na'er outside, turning back to speak to Tang Wulin.
Na'er still said very little, merely following Lang Yue as she left.
"Auntie, it's getting late. I should go home too, or I'm afraid my mom will worry."
Nan Fusheng spoke up.
"Alright, but remember to come play often in the future."
Knowing that Nan Fusheng's home was next door, Lang Yue was not worried about him. She merely turned back, patted his head, and spoke gently.
Nan Fusheng's home was not very large. A living room of a little over ten square meters, a small kitchen, a bathroom, and two rooms each less than ten square meters—that was the entirety of their home.
After returning home, Nan Fusheng headed straight for one of the rooms. It had originally been his parents' room.
Nan Fusheng opened the door and walked in. A figure lay on the bed, her chest rising and falling steadily, showing that she was alive. This was his mother, Lan Yuxi.
Seeing that Lan Yuxi was safe and sound, Nan Fusheng slowly let out a breath. Then he raised his right hand, and a translucent "insect" slowly emerged. It was his Martial Soul.
Nan Fusheng placed his Martial Soul onto Lan Yuxi's body. The Insect Martial Soul slowly faded on Lan Yuxi's body before disappearing completely.
Nan Fusheng closed his eyes and sensed the inside of his body. Suddenly, a strand of blood essence appeared within him and slowly merged into his body.
"As expected." Nan Fusheng opened his eyes and walked out of the room, leaving Lan Yuxi alone on the bed.
In the living room, Nan Fusheng sat on the sofa, contemplating how he should proceed in the future. First, he could follow the protagonist group. That would make it easier for him to keep track of the plot's development, which was one of his current advantages.
As for his relationship with Na'er, the Silver Dragon King, he had not thought too much about it. It was obvious that Na'er treated him completely differently from how she treated Tang Wulin. No, it should be said that Na'er treated "Tang Wulin" differently from everyone other than Tang Wulin.
There was nothing he could do about that. After all, he did not possess the Golden Dragon King's bloodline or a Divine Core. But that might not necessarily be the case in the future. That was also why he had become friends with Tang Wulin. Open attacks were easy to dodge, but hidden arrows were hard to guard against.
At the same time, he had discovered his Martial Soul's ability. It could slowly absorb another person's blood essence. Though the effect was not obvious, it truly could absorb it. Of course, this ability had certain limitations.
First, he had to remain beside the target and place his Martial Soul on them before he could absorb anything. Moreover, the speed was not fast. That was this ability's drawback.
Second, it was unclear how effective this ability would be at absorbing blood essence from living people. After all, Lan Yuxi was his Marionette. Whether it could absorb a Soul Master's Soul Power was also still unknown.
Finally, this ability could easily be classified as belonging to Evil Soul Masters.
Though, in a sense, he could also be considered an Evil Soul Master.
