"Ughhh!!!"
The next day, Isaac howled as he twisted about in bed. After giving a shudder, he slowly crawled out of bed and let out a huge yawn.
"Squeak squeak~"
"Good morning."
Although he had no idea what Little Mouse was saying, Isaac still replied instinctively. Just as he was about to head to his desk out of habit, he suddenly smacked his forehead. He used a spell to clean himself up, then headed out of the laboratory.
His father had returned, so he could no longer follow his previous routine of starting his research the moment he woke up. He needed to eat breakfast first.
And he had to strictly follow noble etiquette...
At that thought, Isaac could not help sighing. This was the bad thing about coming home...
And he could not skip it, either...
Gaia was a High Knight. Catching a rookie like him, who had only just become a wizard, would be effortless, wouldn't it?
So rather than wait for his old man to make a move, it was better to be sensible himself.
"Squeak?" The bewildered Little Mouse was picked up by Hamon and placed on Isaac's shoulder.
"Come on, time to eat."
Little Mouse remained as bewildered as ever and gave no response.
Seeing its dazed appearance, Hamon could only sigh. Seriously... all that studying last night had been for nothing!
Though it had only studied the first page the whole time...
Under the guards' astonished gazes, Isaac rode the Pumpkin Carriage to a small castle behind the fortress. This was where Isaac and his family lived, and he had a room here as well.
In previous years, whenever autumn and winter arrived, he would be brought here to live. However, he had never been allowed to leave the castle before.
Although he had now branched off from the family, that room had still been kept for him and had not been removed. After all, they were a top-tier viscount family that was about to become an earl family. They were not so poor that they could not spare a room.
However, Isaac was not staying in that room this time. It was not because he minded anything; it was mainly because traveling back and forth between the castle and Mage Tower every day was too troublesome and wasted his research time.
After arriving at the castle, Isaac slowed his pace and timed his arrival carefully. When he reached the dining hall, everyone had just taken their seats. He was the last to arrive.
Just like before.
Sitting down at the table, Isaac raised an eyebrow at the breakfast before him. Compared to his own meager breakfast, this one was far more lavish—a pile of roasted meat and exquisite pastries!
The exquisite pastries were for him and his eldest sister, while the roasted meat was for his father, eldest brother, and second brother. They were knights with strong digestion, so greasy food for breakfast was no issue. Moreover, they had enormous energy demands. Unlike wizards, who could make highly efficient use of magic power, knights obtained most of the energy their bodies needed through eating.
Thus, the greatest expense of raising a knight did not come from the Knight Secret Medicine used for training. If one was not striving to improve, they could simply go without that stuff. A knight's greatest expense was food!
Not only did they need a great deal of it, but its quality also had to be high. Ordinary food simply could not satisfy them; it had to be specially prepared, high-energy Demonic Creature Blood Meat.
Skipping medicine merely meant slower progress or no progress at all. But if they did not eat enough, their strength would decline at best, and at worst, they might even starve to death!
Noble wizards, on the other hand, were different. Their physical constitution was only average compared to knights, and they could even extract nourishment from magic power. Therefore, they only needed to maintain ordinary eating habits; they could even go without food entirely.
That was why Isaac and his eldest sister only had light, exquisite pastries for breakfast.
They really were exquisite. There were even little animal patterns on them.
Little Mouse watched as Isaac swallowed a small cake bearing its own portrait in one bite, and its mung-bean-sized eyes went wide!
He ate it!
He actually just ate it!
Without even the slightest hesitation!
"Hiss ha~~~"
Seeing the shocked, trembling Little Mouse on Isaac's shoulder, Hamon emerged from behind Isaac's head. It pointed one finger at Little Mouse, split open its palm, and let out a hoarse, mocking laugh.
Isaac smiled faintly and tapped Little Mouse on the head with a finger before handing it a piece of cheese.
It had a mouse-head pattern printed on it.
Little Mouse held the cheese and stared at its own portrait. Its mouth opened several times, but in the end, it gritted its teeth. Unable to resist the tempting scent, it closed its eyes and took a bite!
"Squeak~"
Then it let out a delighted squeak~
"Hiss!"
At that, Hamon became unhappy. It floated in front of Isaac and opened the enormous bloody maw stretching across its palm in displeasure.
Isaac shook his head helplessly, pulled a plate of roasted meat over from his second brother, and dumped it directly inside.
Watching Isaac interact with the demonic claw and the mouse, Gaia and his children were utterly dumbfounded. Their eyes told them it was horrifying, yet their hearts somehow sensed a trace of warmth...
Third Brother becoming a wizard wasn't quite like when you became one, was it?
Bullshit! I'm an Arcanist! A Truth Wizard who believes in truth! I'm not one of those freaks from the Legendary Wizard faction! Sheryl rolled her eyes in response to Caesar's look.
Gaia's lips twitched as well. He was starting to worry about Isaac's mental state...
As for the second son, Remington...
He was sitting right beside Isaac, watching Isaac interact with the demonic claw and mouse from an extremely close distance. His sanity had completely drained away, and he was simply sitting there in a daze...
Normally, Isaac bringing pets to the dining table and reaching over to snatch other people's food would definitely earn him a scolding from Gaia, perhaps even a small punishment. But the pets, combined with the gentle smile on Isaac's face, were simply too surreal. By the time Isaac bowed and left the dining hall, Gaia and the others only slowly came back to their senses...
"Father... from now on... give Third Brother a separate dining hall... for everyone's sake..." Caesar helplessly looked at the terrified servants. Some of the more timid ones had already rolled their eyes back in their heads and were only forcing themselves to remain standing through sheer professional discipline.
Gaia fell silent for a moment. He glanced at the terrified servants, especially those who had already lost consciousness, and the corner of his mouth twitched. He silently nodded and made a decision that went against the family's ancestral teachings...
He had no choice but to go against them!
Did they not see that even the maids and butlers with special identities were badly frightened?
Given enough time, they might get used to it. But they might also end up like Isaac, developing all sorts of strange psychological changes...
"...No wonder the Grand Princess chose to live on her own... Legendary Wizards... are truly terrifying~"
"Does the Grand Princess also become... surreal like Third Brother?" Remington's lips twitched slightly after he came back to his senses.
"The Grand Princess is also a Legendary Wizard, so naturally, Legendary Wizards are all somewhat mentally unstable. Mad Wizards are simply even more abnormal. Unfortunately, as far as I know, that Grand Princess is also a Mad Wizard, just like our Third Brother." Sheryl shrugged helplessly.
Hearing that, Remington's lips twitched again. What incredible fortune they had... to share a country with that pair of crouching dragons and young phoenixes...
Was it still too late to run away?
