Chapter 19: The World Principle
It is said that when the world was first created, there were only two races within Omnipotens.
One was the God Race.
The other was the Demon Race.
The God Race and the Demon Race appeared in this world around the same time and, like natural enemies, had been in constant conflict.
Unlike the Demon Race, which was born with immense power, the God Race, while possessing various powers, was not a race specifically born for combat compared to the Demon Race.
Gods could do many things; they could create the land and create life. However, when it came to power used for fighting, they were slightly inferior to the Demon Race, which was born for destruction and annihilation.
Furthermore, the God Race had a limit to its numbers.
Generally, gods each had their own domain. Some governed life, some governed nature, and some governed destiny. Others governed health, harvest, wisdom, culture, and so on. Since there were only so many domains, it was impossible for there to be a vast number of gods, let alone too many gods overseeing the same responsibilities. Thus, the number of gods had been fixed from the very beginning. Only when a god passed away could a new god potentially be born.
Given this, the number of gods was very limited.
In contrast, the Demon Race had no such restrictions. Through the accumulation of time, their numbers grew increasingly large, and the race became more prosperous. Eventually, they completely overwhelmed the God Race.
To combat such a Demon Race, the God Race began to create other races. Humans, Elves, Beastmen, and Dwarves were born one after another, and they were guided and nurtured. Finally, they were barely able to hold back the Demon Race.
However, the Demon Race was not to be outdone. They not only created Magic but also created Monsters.
That's right.
Both Magic and Monsters were actually creations of the Demon Race.
This is why they were given the name "Demon." Even the term "Magic Power" originated from the Demon Race. This shows that the Demon Race was indeed more prominent in terms of power than the God Race.
However, setting aside Magic, Monsters, though created by the Demon Race, were not as versatile as the God Race. As a result, the intelligence of the Monsters they created was quite low. Sometimes, even their creators, the Demon Race, could not control the rampaging ferocity of these Monsters. Although Monsters gradually proliferated and eventually spread to every corner of the world, they were not tamed. Even the Demon Race would be attacked by them.
Thanks to this, even with Magic and the creation of Monsters, the Demon Race could not directly overwhelm the God Race. Moreover, the God Race also created magical systems such as Holy Magic and Support Magic. In the end, neither side could gain a decisive advantage over the other.
"But overall, compared to the God Race, the Demon Race's power is still greater."
Sitting at a newly summoned tea table, the Goddess spoke while drinking fragrant black tea.
"That's right. To resist the Demon Race, the God Race created the ritual of Hero Summoning. By summoning Heroes with unique characteristics from another world, they fought against the Demon Race. The ultimate goal was to hope that the Heroes could defeat the Demon King—the Demon Lord."
As she said this, the Goddess mentioned to Shien, who was sitting opposite her and seemed to be intently savoring his black tea.
"Although we Gods can do various things, we cannot directly bestow power. Therefore, for Heroes who are born with the Sacred Sword and possess generally powerful Unique Skills, we Gods hold expectations that they will one day defeat the Demon Lord."
In this manner, the Goddess explained various matters to Shien.
Regarding this, Shien had a few questions.
For example...
"Why can't Gods directly grant power?"
Shien voiced his question.
The Goddess readily provided an answer.
"Because Levels and Skills are concepts inscribed within the 'Principle.' Even Gods cannot interfere with them."
The so-called 'Principle' refers to the laws and rules of the world itself, also known as the 'World Principle.'
"Whether it's the God Race, Demon Race, Humans, or Monsters, they all possess Levels and Skills. Based on individual quality, talent, and potential, their growth in various aspects differs. These are all concepts inscribed within the 'Principle,' in other words, the regulations of the world itself. We Gods can only interfere with phenomena and events, but we cannot interfere with the world's own rules, nor can we interfere with the 'Principle' itself."
The Goddess explained.
"Of course, if it is within the scope permitted by the 'Principle,' then some interference is possible. For example, Magic is a way to intervene with the 'Principle' using Magic Power, thereby interfering with phenomena and events and ultimately forming power. That is Magic."
"Then, some magic weapons, magic items, and magic potions can also temporarily increase Skill Levels and individual abilities based on these magical characteristics. The Sacred Sword you possess also falls into this category."
"However, interference with the 'Principle' can only be done within the permitted scope. If it disrupts the balance too much, then it will absolutely not be allowed."
For instance, Gods can bestow weapons or items that enhance power upon humans, or they can offer blessings to humans. However, they absolutely cannot directly increase a person's Level.
Otherwise, people wouldn't need to level up or grow; they could simply be granted it by the Gods.
As for weapons or items that can directly increase Levels, such things do not exist in this world.
"Up to now, the only weapons and items capable of increasing Levels are the Sacred Swords possessed by Heroes like yourselves who come from other worlds. In this world, there are only items that can at best increase the Level of a certain Skill or enhance a part of an individual's abilities."
The Goddess stated.
"This is probably because you are not beings of this world, and therefore deviate somewhat from the regulations of this world's 'Principle,' right?"
Perhaps it was for the same reason that Heroes from other worlds could awaken very powerful Unique Skills.
Thus, Gods would want to summon Heroes.
"It's a shame that not every person from another world possesses the qualities to become a Hero. Otherwise, all people from other worlds would be summoned without exception, wouldn't they?"
The Goddess casually uttered a shocking statement.
Shien calmly rolled his eyes, but he was also puzzled.
If that were the case, would it mean that his own summoning and becoming a Hero were not random choices, but due to his own special circumstances?
"That's exactly right." The Goddess, having read Shien's thoughts again, smiled and said, "At least, from ancient times to the present, fewer than ten Heroes have been summoned to this world."
In other words, the number of people from other worlds who possessed the qualities to become Heroes was that scarce.
Shien was one of them.
"Incidentally, the Heroes summoned in the past all came from different worlds than you," the Goddess revealed even more astonishing things.
