Thus, from early morning onward, luxurious carriages and grand convoys raced through the streets in groups, heading toward the island in the lake.
On the bridge leading to the island, Royal Knights stood guard in person, verifying the identities of those arriving in carriages and deciding whether to permit them passage.
Today, the bridge to the lake island allowed only the leaders of various forces to cross. Ordinary civilians were forbidden from entering.
And the destination of these leaders was neither the royal palace nor the temple, but a palace built in the largest plaza on the lake island.
It was a palace the kingdom had spent a month constructing, mobilizing vast manpower and resources, along with numerous Court Mages and expensive Magic Items.
This palace had only one purpose.
