Douluo Continent!
Douluo Continent was a very magical place. The people here did not cultivate spiritual power, battle qi, or magic. They had a unique method of cultivation: cultivating martial souls!
On this continent, every child could awaken a martial soul upon reaching the age of six. Once they awakened a martial soul, they could cultivate, and those who cultivated martial souls were known as—soul masters.
There were all kinds of martial souls: tool martial souls such as guns, swords, bows, and towers; beast martial souls such as tigers, lions, and dragons; as well as all sorts of strange martial souls. In short, all kinds of things on this continent could become a human's martial soul. It was truly amazing.
Only those who awakened a martial soul and possessed Innate Soul Power could cultivate. In other words, if someone lacked Innate Soul Power, then even if they awakened an extremely powerful martial soul, they would be unable to cultivate for the rest of their life and could only become an ordinary person. Possessing Innate Soul Power was extremely difficult. It was already quite good if one or two out of ten children possessed Innate Soul Power. That was precisely why soul masters were especially precious on this continent.
The profession of soul master was also publicly recognized as the most honorable profession on the continent. Everyone longed to become a soul master, a powerful soul master.
Besides soul masters, there was another type of creature on this continent that was closely tied to them—soul beasts!
When soul masters reached bottlenecks such as level ten or level twenty, they generally needed to hunt soul beasts and absorb their soul rings before they could advance to the next level. Therefore, soul beasts were extremely important to soul masters.
Generally speaking, soul beasts lived in natural Soul Beast Forests. However, some soul beasts were exceptions. Humans captured and raised them in artificial forests so that people could hunt them and absorb their soul rings. Such forests were called Soul Hunting Forests.
At the Soul Hunting Forest outside Spirit City, a youth dressed in a white short-sleeved shirt and white shorts lay amid a patch of bushes. His eyes were tightly shut, and he lay there without moving. The surrounding bushes completely concealed his body; without a careful look, no one would have noticed him.
The youth lying on the ground suddenly fluttered his eyelids, and his motionless fingers curled slightly. Then, his eyes slowly opened. The moment he opened them, he vaguely saw interwoven branches before him. After only one glance, he closed his eyes again. A moment later, he opened them once more, only to see the same scene as before.
This time, the youth did not close his eyes. Instead, he suddenly widened them and stared at the bushes before him in shock. He hurriedly sat up, wanting to get a clear look at his surroundings.
"Ow!" The youth had only focused on sitting up and had overlooked the bushes around him. He slammed straight into them and cried out.
The youth rubbed his somewhat reddened forehead with a pained expression. Then, ignoring the pain, he hurriedly looked around anxiously, a trace of panic on his face.
"W-Where is this?" the youth asked in a trembling voice. This young man was Long Yun, who had been sucked into the Black Hole.
Upon waking, Long Yun had thought he was dreaming when he saw the bushes in front of him, so he closed the eyes he had just opened. He silently repeated, Wake up, wake up, hoping to rouse himself from the dream. When he opened his eyes again, he found that the scene before him had not changed at all. That was when Long Yun realized something was wrong.
"W-What kind of place is this?" Long Yun muttered repeatedly as he looked at the towering trees around him.
"I think I was sucked into a Black Hole just now, then I lost consciousness. When I woke up again, I was here. Could that Black Hole have brought me here?" Long Yun forced himself to calm down as he muttered under his breath.
"What exactly was that Black Hole? Why did it suddenly appear in my home? And how did it bring me here? Where is this place?" These questions kept echoing in Long Yun's mind. What he wanted most right now was to know the answers.
How he wished someone could answer these questions for him right now! But this place did not look like somewhere people would be, and that filled Long Yun with despair.
"Is anyone there? Is anyone there?" Long Yun tried shouting into his surroundings, hoping someone would respond. But his hopes were dashed. No one answered him. There were only birdsong and—
Roar!
A beast's roar came from the distance. It was loud and carried a startlingly imposing presence. Long Yun shuddered, fear flooding his heart. He hurriedly covered his mouth to keep himself from making another sound, lest he draw the owner of that roar over.
It was the first time he had heard such a sound. Though he did not know what kind of animal had made it, he could tell from the roar alone that its owner was definitely huge, perhaps a ferocious animal like a lion or tiger. If he drew it here, the outcome was obvious.
Heavens! What kind of place is this? Don't tell me I've ended up in some primitive forest! Long Yun wailed inwardly.
Although he was much more mature than others his age, he was ultimately only a twelve-year-old child. How could he ever have encountered something like this? His mind was a complete mess, and he had no idea what to do. Other than fear, there was nothing left in his heart.
Can someone please come save me? Long Yun prayed inwardly.
"Yes. Am I not by your side?" A highly mechanical voice suddenly sounded in Long Yun's mind.
"Who?" Long Yun was startled by the voice. He even forgot that he could not make any sound right now. His face filled with panic as he looked around, trying to locate the source of the voice.
Just as he was looking in every direction, the voice sounded again. "Douluo Experience System!"
Long Yun's pupils contracted at those words, and his roaming gaze froze. "A system?" He caught the key point in the voice's words.
"A system? Does that mean I've transmigrated?" Long Yun said in disbelief, both talking to himself and asking the voice.
"Yes. The Douluo Experience System!" the mechanical voice replied again.
"I really transmigrated? This is Douluo Continent?" Long Yun muttered. He repeated the words in a daze several times before finally stopping.
He never could have imagined that he would transmigrate. Wasn't this the kind of thing that only happened in novels? How could he encounter something like transmigration too? Could transmigration really exist in this world?
Long Yun felt as though his mind was in complete chaos. This was simply too absurd. He truly had the urge to curse.
After a long while, Long Yun's emotions gradually calmed down. Now that he had already transmigrated, it no longer mattered how absurd it was. What mattered was—
"Can I go back?" This was the question Long Yun most wanted answered. He had no ties or attachments to this world, but in the world where he had lived, he had many people he cared about: his parents, Xia Tian, relatives, and others. Those were the things that mattered to him, so whether he could return was what mattered most.
"Yes!" The system's voice sounded.
"Whew!" Long Yun let out a long sigh of relief upon hearing that answer. It was the best news he had received since waking up. "Then hurry up and send me back!" Long Yun said anxiously. He did not want to remain in this world for even a moment longer, even though he had only been here for a few minutes.
"Not yet!" the system said.
"Huh? Why?" Long Yun immediately became anxious upon hearing that and pressed for an answer.
"I said that I am the Douluo Experience System. Until I have allowed you to experience life on Douluo Continent, I will not take you back." The system remained mechanical, without the slightest emotional fluctuation in its voice.
"I've already experienced this place. Let's go back!" Long Yun said anxiously. He wished he could return immediately. How could he possibly want to experience this place any longer?
"No. You must properly experience this place. Otherwise, you can only remain here for the rest of your life!" the system said.
"Ah! Then what if I stay here too long and many years pass in my old world? By the time I return, everything might have completely changed." After hearing the system's words, Long Yun knew it was basically impossible for him to return right now, so he asked the question that worried him most.
He feared that several years might have passed by the time he returned. If his parents discovered that he had disappeared during that time, would they not be heartbroken? And his friends—how would he explain where he had gone? He could not exactly say he had transmigrated, could he? Who would believe that? Even if he returned, there would be a whole pile of trouble.
