Yao Chen was once the continent’s foremost alchemist and the Pavilion Master of Starfall Pavilion. He was also a member of the Yao Clan, but was expelled from it. His parents wished for their names to be recorded on the clan monument; Yao Chen failed to fulfill this wish before their deaths, a regret that remained central to him despite his outward composure. 61 118

Before accepting Xiao Yan, Yao Chen raised Han Feng from infancy and regarded him as a son and ideal successor. Han Feng eventually betrayed him, leaving Yao Chen in his diminished soul-body state. 99 111

While residing in the Bone Flame Ring, Yao Chen became Xiao Yan’s teacher. He guided and encouraged Xiao Yan, lending him strength when necessary while urging him to grow through his own efforts. 9 70 112
