"The reinforcements are on the way! As long as we hold out tonight, they'll arrive tomorrow!" Lance did not know the reinforcements' exact movements, but that did not stop him from imitating Roland and selling the crowd a dream. He could not grasp King Roland's true essence, but copying the general idea was no problem!
"Reinforcements tomorrow? How come I didn't know about that?" Lavien turned his head and asked quietly, clearly shocked by Lance's words. Did Lance have some other means of communication?
"Do you have a Magic Communication item?" Lavien froze, utterly speechless. If he had a Magic Communication item, why send carrier pigeons? Did the kingdom's magical pigeons cost nothing?
"No! I just made it up. If I don't raise morale a little, everyone will fall apart!" Lance lowered his voice and looked around. The Swift River Infantry, the backbone of the battlefield, had suffered terrible losses. Not many had died on the spot, but nearly everyone was covered in wounds! The worst off were the conscripted militia. They threw on weapons and armor stripped from the wounded and rushed into battle, only to be injured and taken out soon afterward, with more militia immediately filling the gaps!
"..." Lavien gritted his teeth and said nothing. He merely gave Lance a long look, the meaning in his eyes obvious. If the people found out, the enraged citizens would not mind tearing him apart. He was effectively driving civilians onto the battlefield to plug the line.
"You trust your own judgment that much?" Lavien asked helplessly. After all, no one knew whether tomorrow or disaster would come first.
"I don't trust myself, but I trust His Majesty!" A devout smile appeared on Lance's blood- and mud-stained face.
"Loyalty! It is my honor to be loyal to His Majesty!"
