Background / History

Roland was originally a gamer from Earth who transmigrated into Middle-earth after an explosion. He arrived equipped with Battle Qi, a Dragon-slaying Sword, armor, a shield, and the Ring System, which rewards achievements and stores items. His first victories over Wasteland Goblins confirmed both his strength as a Great Knight and his location in the world. 1

The System quickly became the foundation of his rise. It rewarded him with a Shire Warhorse, Caslo the Wyvern Knight, Novice Knights, infantry, and other personnel or resources. Roland used these rewards to survive early encounters with Orcs and establish a military following. 1 2 3 11

After becoming involved with Thorin Oakenshield's expedition and the northern conflicts, Roland declared himself the current King of Lagrange and began building a kingdom centered first on Flowing City and later Lulong Fortress and Lagrange City. 12 60 627

His reign repeatedly placed him against Orc armies, Ringwraiths, Eastern Yi, and Sauron's wider forces. Although he initially sought a stable life rather than conquest, the threat to his people and the need to secure territory gradually drove him toward expansion, military reform, and the restoration of Lagrange's former lands. 287 494 579 752

Personality

Roland is practical, survival-minded, and deeply aware of his own limits. He prefers fighting from within the protection of his Knight Order rather than recklessly charging alone, and he routinely weighs supplies, troop quality, reconnaissance, and political consequences before committing his forces. 234 407 579

Despite his frequent complaints about responsibility, Roland takes his role as king seriously. He considers feeding, sheltering, and protecting his subjects a personal obligation, and he is willing to intervene directly when citizens or soldiers are endangered. 460 494 797

His methods can be ruthless. Roland has tortured captured goblins, considered slavery as a practical solution for hostile populations, and planned to manipulate public opinion through staged violence. These actions have disturbed allies such as Aragorn and his own subordinates. 236 707 1100

Roland also possesses a mischievous, irreverent side. He cheats at chess for amusement, reacts awkwardly to extreme displays of loyalty, and often uses humor to deflect discomfort or anxiety. 753 941 942

Abilities & Skills

Battle Qi

Roland channels Battle Qi to enhance his combat ability as a knight and Paladin.

  • Uses Battle Qi Flame in mounted charges and sword strikes. 3 591
  • Infuses wooden javelins with Battle Qi, causing them to strike with enough force to shatter on impact. 236
  • Can use the Paladin skill Spirit of Fearlessness to shield nearby Knights from negative status effects. 207
  • His early fighting style relied heavily on rank, equipment, and allied support rather than technical mastery. 484

Paladin Holy Arts

As a Paladin, Roland possesses holy power and defensive support abilities.

  • Can protect allies with holy buffs rather than expend Battle Qi on attacks when his own offensive output is insufficient. 207
  • His Paladin status grants exceptional survivability; Paladins are noted for powerful healing and divine skills. 9
  • During his battle with Sixth Tier Orcs, he used Sacrifice to burn life force for temporary combat power and suppress much of his pain. 595

Dragon Knight Abilities

Roland became a Dragon Knight through his bond with the young dragon Dos.

  • Rides Dos using Ancestral Power and a Dragon Saddle. 590
  • Can benefit from Dos's mobility, draconic magic, and ancestral power in battle. 592
  • Initially suffers severe nausea and disorientation during Dos's space-jumping flight. 590
  • Lacks the formal training and instinctive balance normally expected of Dragon Knights. 590

Myriad Dragon Chants

Myriad Dragon Chants is a native divine artifact in the form of a golden Dragon Spear.

  • Allows Roland to communicate with the remnant soul of Osbaia, a former Dragon Marshal and Guardian of the Northern Territory. 606
  • Was used to kill the Orc King, but left Roland severely drained. 608
  • Does not fully recognize Roland; unlike System-origin artifacts, its true power must be personally mastered. 606
  • Its use carries extreme risk, especially against opponents beyond Roland's tier. 595 608

Swordsmanship and Javelin Use

Roland is a capable battlefield fighter but initially lacked refined martial fundamentals.

  • Wields the Dragon-slaying Sword effectively against Orcs and dragon-kin. 2 3
  • Learned basic knight skills, including javelin techniques, through instruction from Caslo and Omsk. 236
  • Trained under Adilai to improve his footwork, thrust defense, and overall swordsmanship. 484 485
  • Uses weighted training equipment to strengthen his foot-combat ability. 484

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Dragon-slaying Sword — Roland's primary sword; exceptionally sharp and effective against the Earth Drake and Orcs. 1 2 591
  • Holy Shield Ailiyar / Aelial — A divine shield used for protection, including deflecting an Orc arrow. 207 590
  • Grand Duke Dragon Armor — Armor made from Great Dragon materials that increases aggression, bloodlust, critical-hit potential, and attack speed at the cost of amplifying Roland's darker impulses. 450
  • Myriad Dragon Chants — Native divine Dragon Knight artifact in the form of a golden spear. 606
  • Ring System — Achievement-based system that grants rewards, stores supplies, tracks territory, and resurrected Roland after his death. 1 578 610
  • Wooden Javelins — Hardened, double-ended throwing weapons designed for use with Battle Qi and treated as disposable ammunition. 236
  • Shire Warhorse — Fully equipped warhorse awarded by the Ring System after Roland's first achievement. 1

Relationships

  • Nyx — Roland's wife and queen. He is openly affectionate toward her, while their duties in separate political and economic centers force them into a long-distance marriage. 469 816
  • Caslo — Roland's first System-granted Wyvern Knight and one of his most trusted commanders. Caslo also instructs Roland in basic knight and Dragon Knight knowledge. 2 209 236
  • Reno — A Paladin commander and loyal subordinate who helped establish Roland's authority as king. 17 48
  • Omsk — Sixth Tier Light-Shadow Hero and leader of the Teutonic Knights. Roland relies on him for command, training, and direct battlefield power. 141 155 236
  • Adilai — Veteran knight and Knight Legacy Mentor who trains Roland in swordsmanship and develops the kingdom's Knight Squires. 334 484 485
  • Dos — Young dragon bonded to Roland. Their partnership grants Roland Dragon Knight status, though Dos's inexperience often creates danger. 590 592
  • Thorin Oakenshield — Dwarven ally whose expedition first drew Roland into northern affairs; Roland later sought Thorin's aid during Lagrange's food crisis. 31 627
  • Bard — Ruler and neighboring ally whom Roland intended to support as King of Dale rather than rule Lake-town himself. 17
  • Darian Nightblade — Sixth Tier Light Assassin recruited by Roland for his uniquely effective daylight stealth and assassination capabilities. 664 679
  • Aragorn — A politically useful ally whom Roland intends to support as the future ruler of the Northern Kingdom, while also exposing him to Roland's harsher political methods. 1073 1100

Story Role / Major Arcs

Arrival and Early Survival

Northern Defense and Kingdom Building

Roland founds and defends a northern power base while recruiting troops, rescuing survivors, acquiring mentors, and constructing the institutions needed to sustain an army. He repeatedly emphasizes the need for scouts, supply routes, trained professionals, and defensible territory. 20 234 334 381

Dragon Knight Crisis

Roland becomes a Dragon Knight through Dos, becomes lost near the Misty Mountains or Mirkwood, battles Sixth Tier Orcs, and dies during the campaign. The System resurrects him, after which he returns to Lulong Fortress with a stronger understanding of Dragon Knight power and its risks. 590 595 600 610 615

Preparation for the War of the Ring

Rather than immediately assault Mordor, Roland pursues a long-term strategy of consolidation. He avoids provoking Sauron while strengthening Lagrange, building intelligence networks, directing southern reconnaissance, and positioning allies for the eventual wider war. 831 846 856 944

Restoration of Imperial Influence

Roland expands Lagrange's military, recovers Lagrange City, recruits surviving imperial families, and seeks to rebuild cities and Mage Towers along the Swift River.
