In other words, Rohan's current Marshal of the East was actually the grandfather or father of Eomund, the man who would one day die at the hands of Orcs! Clearly, whoever he was, he was nowhere near as aggressive as Eomund. After all, East Rohan had enjoyed a brief period of prosperity during Eomund's time. Though Eomund's reckless sorties had been absurd, they had at least severely struck at the Orcs' expansion and suppressed their further spread.
